Three days ago, the Institute For Economics And Peace, IEP retracted from the index it published, listing the indigenous People Of Biafra, IPOB, as the 10th most deadly terrorist group. In its retraction, they even said that IPOB was peaceful. But what struck me was the happiness and joy some people exhibited when IPOB was listed as 10th deadly terror group. Some were saying that now, the international community will recognise IPOB as a terror group, cut off their funding, lock them up and deport them

I wondered if these people had any brains? On the same index were two other groups from Nigeria, ISWAP and Boko haram, ranked even more deadly, but their joy was at IPOB? Dont these people realise that the more Nigeria is being showcased as an insecure country, the more there will be capital flight?

International investors, expatriates, tech innovators, tourists and many others that you will need to build your country, are all running away because Nigeria is being portrayed as a terrorist prone country, and you are jumping up for joy?

Other countries are doing everything they can to showcase themselves as peaceful secure places, open for business, in other to attract the much needed investment, but you are jumping for joy at being known for hosting various terror groups? If it were you, would you want to invest or go to a country that has been announced to have several terror groups?

When Buhari came to power in 2015, there was only one designated terrorist group in Nigeria, Boko haram. Buhari has since increased that number to at least 4 by adding IPOB, IMN and Yan Bingida to the list. To show how incompetent Buhari is, he added IPOB and IMN to the list at a time both groups were neither armed nor killed anybody. His reason for doing so was that there were some 'violent clashes' with the authorities. If one or two violent clashes is the bases for a government to declare a group as terrorists,  there would be hundreds of terrorist groups being declared all over the world every week. Rather than use diplomacy and engagement, Buhari used military and the anti-terrorism law, not knowing he was showcasing Nigeria as a terrorist country while trying to attract foreign investors. How stupid? Declaring a group as terrorists is only in extreme situations, and only when other forms of engagement with the group have failed

Today, has all this declaration of various groups as terrorists helped in anyway to bring peace? Nigeria today now has far more insecurity than the day Buhari was sworn in. So what was the point of it all?

Declaring unarmed people as terrorist groups because you want to suppress their agitation, while creating long term irreparable damage to your economy by portraying your country as the 'land of terrorists' . The same Buhari has never once condemned herdsmen from his own tribe that are killing people in all 6 geopolitical zones of Nigeria
