Ethinc and religious politics have been part of the Nigerian political sphere since the 1960's. (first ethnic, relgion became more prominent from the 1980's onwards).

Obi certainly used religion and tribe , but he is not the first, nor is he the originator, and circumstances forced him into doing so. Ditto Tinubu.

Nigerian politics has always been ethnic (Yorubas) and religious (Hausas)
