Army repels ISWAP attack on Borno

The Nigerian troops deployed in Mafa have repelled attack of the Islamic State West African Province (ISWAP) terrorists on Ajiri Community in Borno State. It was reported that the failed attack was coordinated by the ISAP Commander, Abou Mohammed, in response to the killing of terrorists’ Commander and 41 other fighters.

A counter-insurgency expert, in the Lake Chad region, Zagazola Makama, disclosed, yesterday in Maiduguri that the ISWAP meeting held at Kajeri Dogumba and Bula Yagana Aliye. He, however, vowed to revenge the massive killings of their colleagues.

The terrorists were said to have stormed the town on March 29, 2023 and attempted an attack on the military base. He noted that this resulted to a heavy gun battle with the troops deployed to protect the community, which is 60 kilometres east of Maiduguri, the state capital. He said the troops later overwhelmed the terrorists in a gun battle and successfully repelled the attack.

According to him, the over an hour fierce repulsion also resulted to inflict of fatalities, while other terrorists fled with gunshot wounds. A military source in Maiduguri, also stated that the terrorists staged another ambush on troops’ reinforcement team deployed from Mafa.

Besides, the source, added that the troops repelled the ambush forcing the terrorists to flee towards the Dikwa-Marte axis.

A member of Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) was injured in the repulsion and ambushes,” he said.

The reason why the Nigerian army is taking so long to beat ISWAP is because it is a guerilla war, not a conventional war.

All ISWAP attacks are basically isolated attacks on a millitary base, a small army base, killing a few soldiers and then running as fast as possible to hide. It is war by attrition with the idea that they worry their enemy into surrendering over time. The thing is, they are prepared to wait years to do so. The question is, are we ready to wait them out?

If war was easy as you think, by now the Americans would have long since eliminated the taliban. Or finished the war in Iraq by 2004. Or dealt with any number of internal insurgencies in the USA by 1975. Ditto the UK and the IRA.

If our army wants to beat BokoISWAP they would have to embark on the kind of war the ancients used to fight...total genocide. Not funny..too many innocents die. for nothing.

I guess the UK army too was not sincere fighting the IRA over 20 years, or the US was not sincere fighting the taliban....

Nigeria = 36 states and FCT
36 states and FCT = Nigeria

Nigeria is not = 36 states without the FCT, or 36 states only

And
meaning: conjunction
used to connect words of the same part of speech, clauses, or sentences, that are to be taken jointly.
Synonyms - Similar, together with, along with, with, as well as, in addition to, including, also, too, besides, furthermore, moreover, plus, what's more..

The word And may assume different functions depending on the context of use.

Well it's not as if 5he people are adding any value to nigeria. Infa t some of the masses in the north help the terrorists hide. So we can sacrifice wiping them out to save the rest of the population who actually add value to nigeria.

Exactly my point of view. ISWAP/Bokoharam are difficult to defeat because, they're living among the innocent lives. Now, going after them in full force is tantamount to genocide which is totally unacceptable. And that's why it will be difficult for them to be defeated in a jiffy.

At the end, such a policy comes to bite one in the gluetal region.

Take the British. From 1968-1992 they fought a long and brutal war against the IRA in Northern Ireland. To cut a long story short....the immediate cause of the war was an invasion of Ireland by the same British some 200-300 years ago with attendant genocide, depopulation followed by years of discrimination and ill treatment. That led to resentment, and by extension the 1968-92 war.

We could do a mass war of depopulaiton as you suggest. But it is going to create more problems than it would solve. Maybe it won't affect you, but it would hit your children's generation. Hard.

The only way of solving the issue in the NE....good governance, massive education, and making the area attractive for investment, and ending discrimination. Which is kind of what the UK did in Northern Ireland starting from the 1980's onward. That takes the rug from Boko's feet.

The first step to this is to stop the sharia rule they use over there but the leaders will not agree because they want to control the masses with sharia meanwhile the family of the elites aren't affected by sharia.

Well, it isn't sharia causing the problems up North. (Sharia is not my cup of tea by the way, and I don't support it).

Deal with the economic and social issues there first, then Boko will lose strength.

UAE is run by Sharia law...yet they have a lot of Westerners working there, a lot of third worlders ...Nigerians included, working there, and many of these Nigerians are probably opposed to Sharia. Thanks to their large oil wealth...the UAE has to some extent dealt with the social and economic issues among its native population. That's why a nihilistic recruiter from IS won't make much headway there.

When you have friends or relatives on one of those battlefields you'd no longer call it lies.

Please stop wasting time educating this ones and his kin..it is futile! If the US and Russia could not tame the Taliban to the point that these terrorists are now on government, our soldiers deserve all the kudos they get! There was a time when no week passes without us hearing a bomb blast in Nigeria but now what we have is isolated skirmishes and Nigerians of the kind of breed that you quoted still open their mouth to say rubbish!
