Why We Launched The #bigbellefitkillperson Campaign by ReduceSugar: 1:59pm On Apr 03, 2023
We launched the #BigBelleFitKillPerson campaign around #WorldObesityDay to raise awareness about abdominal obesity, which puts 47 million Nigerians at risk of developing non-communicable diseases such as type 2 diabetes, hypertension, and kidney diseases.

There is a common misconception that having a "big belle" is a sign of success or a comfortable lifestyle. However, in reality, abdominal obesity can be a dangerous health condition.

It is also important to note that obesity can affect people with different body types, not just those who are visibly overweight.

Research shows that consuming sugary sweetened beverages like soft drinks is a leading cause of obesity in Nigeria. Therefore, we launched the #BigBelleFitKillPerson campaign to educate people about the dangers of abdominal obesity and the impact of sugary drinks on our health.
