Tinubus campaign was not "it is my turn" but "renewed hope". Emilokan was a statement made prior to his party primaries.

By the way, 6.9 million votes of Atiku to 8.7 million votes of Tinubu is not slim margin win in any way. That's a difference of almost 2 million voters.
