How to make your car more aerodynamic

Many car owners are looking to make their cars more aerodynamic, but while trying to achieve aerodynamics, they end up installing accessories that help achieve the opposite effect of aerodynamics. In this article, Techloging.com will talk about the very simple steps to achieve this goal.

For many people, fuel efficiency is a primary consideration when buying a new or used car. These same people, however, often sabotage this efficiency by adding exterior accessories to their vehicles that create wind resistance as they look for ways to make their cars more aerodynamic.

The harder an engine has to work to push a vehicle through the air, the more fuel it uses. The degree of resistance to a smooth flow of air is called drag.

When air flows efficiently around a car, this is called aerodynamics. The best aerodynamics of a vehicle and the least resistance, suppose a greater and better fuel efficiency of the vehicle.

Simple ways to make your car more aerodynamic
1. Whenever possible, drive with the windows up. Driving with the windows down disturbs airflow and increases drag. Keep in mind, however, that if your goal is to improve fuel efficiency, using the air conditioning increases fuel consumption somewhat.
2. Eliminate unnecessary external accessories. These include rear spoilers (a spoiler actually increases drag and degrades aerodynamics), air intakes, fenders, oversized side mirrors, oversized tires, extra lights, grills, roof racks, and bike racks. Any accessory that protrudes from the bodywork, even a small amount, will increase drag and prevent the car from being more aerodynamic.
3. A more aggressive approach is to lower the profile of your vehicle. You can do this by installing shorter springs or lowering the front grill. Using shorter springs helps lower ride height, reduce wind resistance at the front end and improve aerodynamics.
4. Lowering the front grille minimizes the amount of air flowing under the car, where air passing over uneven surfaces (suspension, exhaust, etc) increases friction. Unless you have experience working on automotive suspension systems or body panels, hire a professional to install the springs or lower the grille.
5. Installing covers over unneeded openings on the exterior of your vehicle helps make your car more aerodynamic. This includes the rear wheel wells, which can greatly disrupt airflow. You can also install solid, smooth caps over your wheels. By covering the lug nuts and holes in the wheels, air can flow more smoothly past the wheels.
