The 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) is likely to hold in 2026 and might be used as qualifications for the 2026 World Cup in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

According to reports, the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) is not part of the FIFA 2025 Calendar, and FIFA says the AFCON will be in due course.

The AFCON 2025 will hold in 2026 and all quarter-finalists will automatically book their place in the 2026 World Cup.

CAF has always used the format of the qualifiers for the qualifications for the FIFA World Cup but the 2026 World Cup will be the first time CAF will be using the AFCON tournament as qualification for the World Cup.

The 2025 AFCON is without a host after Guinea was stripped of hosting rights in 2022 and CAF is set to announce the host before September 2023.

Algeria, Morocco, Zambia, and Nigeria/Benin are countries bidding to host the 2025 AFCON.

The 2026 tournament in the United St,ates, Mexico and Canada will have 12 groups of four teams. The top two teams will advance to a round of 32 with the eight best third-placed teams.

The 2026 World Cup will have 104 matches instead of the typical 64 games due to its expanded format Africa will have nine direct slots with one playoff spot instead of the five slots allocated to CAF.

CAF Should restructure their tournament to every 4 years like Euro. So it doesn't clash with the world cup and also gives host countries time to prepare. These two years of a thing is gradually making the competition lose relevance...

not for a continent like Africa.

Every two years is okay, is left for CAF to make AFCON a must in the FIFA calendar.

CAF has tried its best from shifting the tournament from an even year to an odd year so that it won't clash with the World Cup.
