The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and that of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development have confirmed that the first batch of 13 buses conveying 637 stranded Nigerian students had arrived safely at Aswan borders in Egypt.

They also explained how $1.2m was negotiated to hire buses to convey the evacuees.

The necessary documentation and clearance before admission into the Egyptian territory for their eventual evacuation to Nigeria, according to them, was ongoing.

A joint statement by the Permanent Secretaries of the ministries indicated that the movement of the second batch of 29 buses would commence yesterday.

The statement advised evacuees to be at the designated locations with only one piece of luggage.

It explained that contrary to insinuations on social media, embassy staff were very much on the ground in Khartoum to coordinate the evacuation exercise to the very end.

The statement stressed that the outcry over the negotiated sum of $1.2 million for the buses hired for the exercise was uncalled for.

According to the statement, the amount was negotiated in a condition of war and there were competing demands for the same bus services by other countries also trying to evacuate their citizens.

I remembered when $43m cash was found in an ikoyi mansion in Lagos

Anyway that's an opportunity for transporters to leverage on to cover up possible risk.

When war breaks out in an area, a bottle of water can go as much as N3000 on the street.

Another corruption! What were you thinking when the US, China and others sent their country planes to evacuate their nationals? Now you are hiring buses to take out your citizens @ inflated costs.

C130s have no seats which means that Nigeria plans to airlift its citizens on a 6-hour journey sitting on the bare floor while there are free Boeing 747s in the Air Peace fleet to comfortably ferry them home safely.

cheesy when ever I speak my mind concerning the way this country operates, I'm tagged ipob. Even if I commend them, they'll say I'm a Muslim. Well, I seriously don't care how y'all feel when I speak my truth and as for this, this ain't right.. from the manner of approach and also the means of transporting of our "worthless" citizens out of Egypt is soo wrong.. remember when the US marine came to naija to carryout an operation cos they had intel.. we didn't know till it was successful! But we still got people that follow the analogue method which is waybetter for their comfort..

There’s no place they explained how the negotiation was done in the write up above.

A lot of transport companies will jump at half the price to deliver the service

Everything in the country is an opportunity to loot, sadly

They won't tell you. I watched on channelstv where a student narrated how they contributed money to get themselves out of Sudan to Egypt by road. APC is far worse than the pdp. It was aba moro's NCS recruitment saga in which he made several millions of Naira from sale of employment form that shocked me, which was supposed to be distributed free of charge and he deposited the money in David Mark's wife's account. This evacuation fraud is even more shocking. 1.2m usd multiplied by 740 naira...that's bizarre.

Blind peeps would still defend this fraud. I just pity Onyema of a man. Nigeria doesn't deserve pity under the apc-led administration because it won't be appreciated, exceptnhe just wanted to do it for God's sake. He'd lose billions under this evacuation arrangement while a selected few would smile home with billions of naira.
