I have said this on Nairaland multiple times. What we get in Nigeria are crumb jobs and those crumbs are disappearing.

You forget that it is people who develop, manage and update the AI models regularly.
Those models need to be deployed, use computational and network resources that need humans to function. Besides, the chat GPT you mentioned cannot write any codes but only pull out codes from public repos. Until AI can write its own codes or build OS or develop a programming language framework from the scratch, which is a long shot, tech career will remain in VERY HIGH demand.

Have you managed or have been part of a large code repo before?

Have you used AI in code analysis, reviews and maintenance before?

Have you seen real life code issues on production codebase before (like say an attack ) and been part of the team that resolved it?

Have you written testable codes before?

Have you tested codes before?

Have you been part of a devops team before?

Finally, will you as a CTO guarantee that your codebase is in safe hands with an AI and thus sack your whole tech team?

While his reasoning is quite shortsighted,ChatGPT is really just the beginning. AI will be much more powerful and versatile in the nearest future. Even tech teams comprising of humans has people who set the overall vision, monitor and manage it. For lower roles,it's very possible AI will be a replacement.
