All these stories una dey cook up. How can they use another person's folder for another? Many teaching hospital have the patients' name tagged to the bed, along with the drug and treatment charts. Even if there was a mistake the first time(in giving a patient another patient's drug), it not possible repeating itself regularly. The drugs undergo crosschecks from doc, nurse and pharmacist.
Bro, it’s not called a teaching hospital for nothing. It's where docs are taught and UBTH is a big teaching hospital so would attract many student doc and house officers. Teaching Hospitals are in every state. Some have 2 depending on healthcare size. And that is where you have the best brains. And of course treatment there is cheaper than private hospitals. If you don't like the teaching hospital, you can always opt for private

In Nigeria we enter theater not knowing the blood clothing profile of the patient, we only order for it wen we are clinically suspecting a possiblity of uncontrollable heamorrhage. Same way so many other things to check on. But the fact is this is Nigeria, because of finance we still manouver to "riskly" help out. Trust me if we are to do the 100% risk free which is not even obtainable in Europe, u will b paying Millions. Ure cursing after u read where I said something that should be charged for 1Milla all things equal, we charge 350,400k and take risk because of finance, trusting our skill to manouver for the good of patient incase of complications, u're here cursing,lol. Go and ask how much patient pay for health in that europe and compare it, u think health delivery is cheap? It's costly but we still survive here base on we we. I started donating blood as a medical student in UCTH. My consultant forced us but I kinda loved it. I helped pay for a couple patients bills. But I stopped it while i was living in Port Harcourt when a patient I was trying to help accused me. See eh, I don see something.

I grow up in Benin I have plenty encounters of how these things happen, my in law died in UBTH they were treating him with someone else’s case file giving him wrong medication that’s how he died only for us to find out, Doctors will be coming to see patients in the hospital ward they will come with at least 5 to 6 medical students and be using a patient to teach them such things needs to be stopped, when issues like this comes up don’t think the person just lied, I saw the post on Twitter then I remember what happened to my in law

My brother was killed by one idiot who couldn't find his veins for 24 hours. How can a professional say he can't find a patient veins for 24 hours? Even if the veins did not pulp out, as a professional you are supposed to know where you can find veins in the body. But the idiot allow my brother to just die like fowl.

I will not argue any further but I pray for you and your family or friends to encounter such then you will understand what most people go through in UBTH they are killing people daily and such should be checked, this your wack mentality is the reasons why they will continue with such things, I work and reside in Abu Dhabi I know the kind of standard medical facilities n how they attend to patients here, in Nigeria only the smell of our hospital is capable of killing patients with the awful smell of IZAL they use to mop their floor

Firstly, no medical student would be allowed to carry out a Caesarean operation. I know this because I'm a doctor trained in Nigeria.I initially thought it was done by a resident,who is a qualified doctor already, but now, we know it's a consultant who did it.
2) Complications are sadly, part of operations and normal standard procedure anywhere in the world is to inform the patient of these risks. Rarely would you see any "experienced professional" who hasn't had a complication before. So, it's not damaging.
3) I've explained why she had kidney failure in the previous thread. It's not due to "tampering" with her kidney.

4) was the hospital wrong in arranging an MDT meeting with the husband? Would you have preferred they ignored him?
It's hard to please Nigerians.

They did not deny that something happened to the woman's kidney. It is stated that a Nephrologist was involved, which gives more credence to the husband's story. The truth is somewhere in the middle and it seems a terrible mistake was during the delivery.

Students' doctors are not even in session as we speak and student doctors are not even allowed to do a procedure on their own the man lied from a to z you don't tarnish peoples image because you lost some one we know it's painful but lying wasn't an option and spoiling the image if the hospital. Chief my younger sister is a Certified Doctor so I can’t hate Doctors and no it’s not Doctors against the society because Doctors have the most important job in human existence and are valued. The reason some may feel the society is against them is because most of them are proud and arrogant especially in Africa.

We all know surgery is dangerous and there will always be a slight chance things will go bad normal, but a case that from childbirth to kidney complications as a result of surgery done is not common and hardly expected to be a complication from child birth. Those who operated on her were probably careless.

An orthopedic CONSULTANT for that matter performed surgery on my dear elder sis God rest her beautiful soul and he forgot cotton wool in her and puss started coming out, after numerous complaints and tests/investigations ,we took her back for another surgery to check ,and behold a cotton wool was in found in her.

As if that wasn’t bad enough he stitched her up and mistakenly stitched the drainage pipe to her skin AGAIN O after taking out the cotton wool,only for him to apologize latter arrogantly when we went for dressing and found out the drainage pipe was also stitched to her saying the stitching was a mistake,. His arrogance , pride and carelessness caused my family a lot and his actions affected my dear sisters life until she passed away.

A lot of Nigerian doctors won’t settle down to do a good job and will be in haste to finish the procedure hence making a careless minor mistake that could be life threatening, which may most likely have been the case with this man and his wife.

Yes I know this trust me I do,Just that I feel the Doctors could have been more careful, because there was no underlying medical condition before the birth so such kidney complication isn’t expected or imagined a possible outcome from childbirth. And the hospital management was and is still very insensitive to the man’s plight so it’s just a natural thing that people will get angry at the Hospital and Doctors involved. People will NOT understand this sort of pain until it happens to them which we always pray against.

RIP to ur sister. It can be painful, I would not deny there are iatrogenic factors.

Meanwhile as per the bolded, one condition called DIC can be uncontrollable sometimes even with ur best skill with ur readily available pints of blood. It can shut down the kidney even without tampering with it during surgery, most likely what happened in the index case we are discussing.

I remembered some years back a sick relation of mine died at teaching hospital,all d test results he did 8 of them & very expensive they managed misplaced all d results,making referral delayed.
I also witness where injection meant for one patient was given to another patient i felt sorry & embarrassed on behalf of d victim.

This was how I went a hospital for blood test only for the nurse to clean the site of the injection with cotton wool only (without mentholated spirit). Omo I hala for the nurse sey ah madam what are you doing laidis, use spirit to disinfect the site of the injection na. It was when I exclaimed and called her out that a doctor there saw what was happening and quickly intervened. Nigerian hospitals are mostly death traps and I am inclined to believe Mr Sunday than the so called "specialist" hospital - that specialize in butchering patients. Carry small infection go hospital they will tell that you they need to cut your leg or cut your hand without diagnosing the infection.

The human body is so predictable that medical scientists can predict within a satisfactory margin of error your reaction to certain drugs and treatments. That hospital is culpable. How did they go from delivery, to removing womb to affecting the kidney it is a clear sign of incompetence, negligence and ineptitude. Nigerian hospitals are death traps and that is why most people would rather go to church and pray than go to a hospital where one fool will be experimenting with your body.

My good sir, I agree with horrible experiences we have gone through in hospitals. But this story in particular reeks of falsehood.

The only fact is that there was a delivery that was complicated and the woman died. ( this is sad). However the man is not telling the truth about most of the story.

Anyway let him do as he pleases I can assure you that when the chips are down and the truth comes out he will run.
