In the night of Monday 14 to Tuesday 15 April 2014, about 30 armed men, members of the Boko Haram sect, burst into the dormitory of Government Girls Secondary School in Chibok, Borno State, northeast Nigeria.

The terrorists rounded up a total of 276 girls all aged between 16 and 18 years and put them into waiting trucks.

As they drove towards the vast Sambisa forest which borders Cameroon, Niger, and Chad, 57 of the girls managed to jump down from the trucks and escape, whilst the other 219 were taken away.

After years of government negotiations, 107 girls were released, but 112 remain hostage, with their whereabouts unknown.

NAOMI MAINA

She is one of the original 276 Chibok girls who was rescued. She was sponsored to the USA in 2016 for her university education and graduated in 2020 with a degree in Economics.

She is also a talented singer and has produced several musical singles.
