Good one.

This means that Peter obi can contest in 2027 without going through any political party.

How he wan get 20% signatures in Zamfara, Borno, Katsina, Kebbi etc?

I doubt if anybody can go through the independent candidacy path. The hurdle is too high to scale through.

According to Constitution Alteration Bill No 58, for any Nigerian national to contest presidential election as independent candidate, he or she must obtain the verified signatures of at least 20 per cent of registered voters from each State of the Federation provided that a registered voter shall not sign for more than one independent candidate in respect of the same office.

They made the hurdle really high.

I was thinking something along the line of verified signatures of at least 25 per cent of registered voters from 24 States

Hope it is not independent candidacy that will make every tom dick and harry want to contest as governor or president?

There may be a whole textbook as ballot paper o.., there must be stringiest requirements to be met to contest as independent candidate.

The condition is stringent enough anyone who meets the condition is as good as been declared returned.

Dude, na format. Power brokers will just sponsor many people to crowd the field. Then settle them last minute to withdraw.

They will never do anything that will truly empower the masses.

Imagine how Wike could have mixed things up with Rivers cash, by recruiting many "independent" candidates. Atiku too.

Tinubu would have had an even easier ride to the presidency if there was independence candidacy.

They won't take of death sentence of kidnapping, corruption or electoral fraud.

Dem never ready.

Nice one but they should have not have included the 20% verified signatures of registered voters in every state there's no way any young nigerian politician can be able to get that 20% signatures in all nigerian states 2/3 could have been very okay.

Hmm... We haven't gotten things right. Then wan introduce another confusion into the constitution... Tomorrow now,.... We go begin wait for Supreme court to interprete am...
..it's good because a candidate does not need to contest for president , governor, senator through any political party...no need to go through party primaries and bribe delegates with dollars to vote for the person inorder to become the presidential candidate of the party...no need for the person to buy presidential party form of 100 million like APC sold their presidential APC form...a young person, a youth can contest for president independently without been a member of any political party

That is good....the youth will now have opportunities to contest for presidential, governorhip office or position in an election without been a member of a political party....I pray Buhari should sign this bill..

Good

It's a great news to Obi, because he will ceased running from one political party to the other snatching their presidential tickets up and down.

He's learnt his lessons though, because all the votes he thought he got in the last election are as good as invalid votes.

His candidacy is frought with bizarre illegality and hereby dismissed.
...but will Buhari sign this bill to become a law in the Constitution

Signatures of 20% of registered voters is more the stringent condition. "Verified" signatures for that matter!

Better to just contest under a party. No one is going through that much trouble to contest.
