Obaofaba:
Good

It's a great news to Obi, because he will ceased running from one political party to the other snatching their presidential tickets up and down.

He's learnt his lessons though, because all the votes he thought he got in the last election are as good as invalid votes.

His candidacy is frought with bizarre illegality and hereby dismissed.

Hahahaha....Obi will kill you one day grin

impossible

To get signature of 20% of registered voters is almost impossible

It's the highest form of absurdity. That part was added by evil people. grin

I agree with this law. You don't need corrupt APC or PDP before you can contest.

Hope it is not independent candidacy that will make every tom dick and harry want to contest as governor or president?

There may be a whole textbook as ballot paper o.., there must be stringiest requirements to be met to contest as independent candidate.

Do you not bother to read the article and see the almost impossible condition before an independent can run? He has to have 20% of signatures of all registered voters in every state of Nigeria. That's impossible.

Nice one but they should have not have included the 20% verified signatures of registered voters in every state there's no way any young nigerian politician can be able to get that 20% signatures in all nigerian states 2/3 could have been very okay.

Even the president Buhari cannot get the verified signature or 20% of registered voters in all the states of Nigeria.

Beware of the waivers you are giving to the subtle gender! If they are equal to men as they vehemently claim today, on what basis therefore are you granting them unconstitutional waivers? We pray that those our potbellied lousy legislative whoremongers are not being bewitched by Yansh power to sell out the heritage of the kingfolks. If they bewitch you with Yansh, your end will be worse than the present sorry state of men in the western world who have been virtually castrated by Yansh instigated legislations

Good if it sails through

State governors hijack local government monthly allocations. Independent candidate is what is needed at grassroots level to put to rest states stealing of LG funds. And also stopped politicians appointed by governors and without stakes in constituencies becoming LG chairmen
Wrong
20% is hard
Independence useless if gov does not organize lga election
What's wrong with appointment
Do they not appoint commissioners and ministers and ambassadors?

According to Constitution Alteration Bill No 58, for any Nigerian national to contest presidential election as independent candidate, he or she must obtain the verified signatures of at least 20 per cent of registered voters from each State of the Federation provided that a registered voter shall not sign for more than one independent candidate in respect of the same office.

They made the hurdle really high.

I was thinking something along the line of verified signatures of at least 25 per cent of registered voters from 24 States
easier to kuma just firm another party from scratch. Only need 25 signatures for that. 1 from 2/3rd states

..it's good because a candidate does not need to contest for president , governor, senator through any political party...no need to go through party primaries and bribe delegates with dollars to vote for the person inorder to become the presidential candidate of the party...no need for the person to buy presidential party form of 100 million like APC sold their presidential APC form...a young person, a youth can contest for president independently without been a member of any political party
you no get 100 million you Wan contest presidency. You're not ready.

independent candidate can't win president... At best some national assembly seat or gorvenor that's if one and popular and heavily backed financially but u see president forget am.... Even in America independent candidate no fit win president... Bernie Sanders had to Port to democratic party from independent to contest president... So no deceive aside PDP APC no other platform guaranteed winning president in Nigeria... It's fact u can choose not to accept it

that way pple will not just wake up contesting... It's ok if u ask independent candidature means one is popular not to need Party structure
