No, it's because in 2014, oil prices fell, and with that our dollar income fell...and thus, restrictions came in.(And we were here before...the period 1982-1990, and 1991-2007 was quite memorable).

(Nigerians had dollar accounts before 2014, by the way).

Plus, there is no way that Dangote would have sucked up all the dollars 'for his refinery'.

Most of the loans Dangote got for his refinery came from foreign banks and the African development bank. The CBN loan was in naira , not dollars.

If it's a north vs south thing, why are other northern businessmen not getting the same priviledges from government?

If its a nepotism thing, how come Dangote was favoured by northern, southern, eastern, western, Christian and Muslim leaders?

Fact is, like you said, he's an astute businessman, a very shrewd one who knows how to curry favour from anyone. He's also very good at engaging in strategic investments; the kind of investments that'd make any govt in power lick his feet.

Every businessman bribes, lobbies, schemes and kills to get favours from govt; how come this same man is always the one who wins, regardless of who's in power?.... We need to give it up for the man abeg and quit trying to rubbish his acumen with the "nepotism" or "he is favoured" narrative; he's clear ahead of his peers.

On the second claim, all I tried to do was to deflate the widespread allusion that his tribe is the reason he keeps getting favoured. I feel that's a lazy conclusion especially when you consider that he gets these favours from everyone in power (regardless of tribe, ethnicity or religion). The truth which many have refused to accept is that there's something Dangote does bettter than his peers.
