Arthur Jarvis University (AJU), a private University in Akpabuyo Local Government Area of Cross River, says it has initiated random testing of students to curb menace of Drug abuse among the students.

The Vice Chancellor of the institution, Prof. Ani Nkang made the disclosure during the seventh matriculation of the University in Akpabuyo, near Calabar on Friday.

The VC who expressed worry on the issue of drug abuse among the youths, said any prescription drug in use should be properly registered at the University hospital.

He warned the 329 matriculants that the institution also have in place, tought sanctions against other social vices.

According to him, "Resist any undue influence by friends as the effects may be devastating. Please note that this university has zero tolerance to examination misconduct, drugs, secret cult activities, possession of dangerous weapons on campus, rape, fighting, stealing and impersonation.

"These activities attract visible and proportionate disciplinary action including suspension or expulsion.

"Moreover, perpetrators of activities which are considered criminal offences are promptly dismissed from the University and handed over to law enforcement agencies for investigation and prosecution."

Nkang said that the University which was issued with full operational licence in 2020, boasts of been the most affordable private University in the country and also has excellent student-teacher ratio in classes and good hostel accommodation.
