Sane and decent societies encourages citizens to be actively involved in making their society a better place for cohesive coexistence and progress. The make rules and clamour for rule of law based on the letters of the law and subjected to the interpretation of few for either "greater good" or for the "larger picture".

Based on these encouraged active participation of citizens in making their society a better place, toll free lines are assigned to some critical institutions like the police, fire service and others alike.

These was done to encourage someone to feel responsible for the actions or inactions of others or society in need of help. People have the responsibility of protecting others whether they are related or not.

That is the reason why in advanced societies, anybody can dial 911 or 999 to report a scene, a crime, a suspicious movement, loitering or an anarchist without a second thought. In fact, the motto is if you see something, you must say something or you become an accomplice.

The recent judgement of the Supreme court of Nigeria when juxtaposed with the norms of a sane society is worrisome. Meddlesome Interlopers? How? The law said "if you see something, you say something or you become an accomplice?

What is meddlesome there? Are you saying that you must be a victim of crime before you can call the police? Are you saying that it must be your property that is on fire before you can call fire fighters? Are you saying that you be sick yourself before you can call ambulance? What are you saying please?

Turning the laws upsidedown because you are looking at the "larger picture" or for "greater good" is never in the interest of the general public in developing countries. Because those larger pictures are seen by few dirty minded people who are held at ransom or been blackmailed by the powers that be, outside your location.

In sane climes, good people run for offices to make it a better place while in Africa and Nigeria in particular, bad people with heavy blackmailable luggages are sponsored to make the place bad or worst as have seen in the present departing government of Nigeria.

Tinubu presidency can easily be blackmailed with drug issues, so as Shettima with terrorists sponsor. For them to function, then certain areas must not be on the table. You wonder why Buhari as a former general, allowed oil theft for a full tenure to on unabated while the world turned a blind eyes to government backed, ethnic motivated killings in Nigeria and their much trumpeted human rights abuses?

Don't be surprise that the so called "And FCT" will go the same way as this meddlesome kwakwa! The law they said is clear on paper but who interprets based on vested interest that is never in the public interest, but in that of those who continue to look at the "bigger picture" and for "greater good" are the law themselves.

Remember, it is good for one good man to die than they society to be in crisis, not because of his bad, but that of those with vested interest like in Nigeria today.

If you're taking about bringing cases to court yes you generally need standing before the court will hear it. That's how it's always worked under common law. There's exceptions but this is the general rule.

It’s funny that we twist stories to favour our narratives.
The electoral act explained better.

Or to put it in another way, the court is asking why you're crying more than the bereaved? Why are you taking Panadol for another man's headache?

This is why they say others are educated and lawyers are learned.
My dear Brother Bernard here, wrote an epistle longer than even the judgment itself but he doesn't understand what locus standi means.

I won't be the one to educate you on locus standi. Use Google or enrol in Datti's Faculty of Law.
