It's not of Tinubu's doing. He should be applauded for taking the bold decision otherwise Nigeria will finally totally go bankrupt.

Can God allow afflictions to rise a second time? I was 7 when Shehu Shagari took mantle of leadership in 1979 and even as a child then, I felt positive impacts of democratic government before he was overthrown by Buhari. But today democracy had been hijacked by wrong people who call themselves politicians.

By the way, are you just knowing that subsidies cease to exist from June 1?

Tinubu didn't remove subsidy, he simply reminded u that subsidy has been removed.
Unless u dón't listen to radio or watch TV.
The budget signed for June has no space for subsidy.

It's undisputable that anybody that call himself president could remove the subsidy but Tinubu was rather fast in doing so without first and foremost, caution the effects it will bring to the masses/electorates. It's wrong.

Stop the wholesale display of ignorance. It is embarrassing for an adult who is supposedly educated.

The budget Tinubu met has no provision for fuel subsidy ostensibly because there can be no excuse retaining it with Dangote refinery fully operational from June.

Hiking the price of PMS was always going to happen in June. Fuel subsidy removal or not. This is because suppliers of Refined derivatives of crude must make maximum profit from it before Dangote refinery runs them all out of business.

Remember, no more importantatiion of subsidizwd PMS etal into Nigeria if Dangote refinery is meeting domestic demand optimally.

No more scarcity of PMS etal in theory with the big plus being that the Government can plough savings on cessation of subsidy payment into other sectors like healthcare, education, infrastructure provision etc.

This is a good development on many levels your kind would have welcomed in December when Obi or any other candidate you supported were also singing subsidy removal. Now it has happened under Tinubu you are being needlessly and sadistically negative.

Learn to put pettiness aside, see the big picture and wish your country well. Everything does not start and end with you being able to buy fuel at 50 Naira per litre.

If the average Nigerian has to pay more for fuel but positive effects are derived in other sectors, like health and education or even provision of financing for SMEs that then translates into more jobs for our teeming population of youths, then those are acceptable positive economic trade-off benefit of fuel subsidy removal.

They won't. Bias makes them disengage their brain to then be needlessly negative and ignorant.

Learned observers know that the PMB government cynically pushed the implication of subsidy removal, with it's knock on effects, on the Tinubu Government yet some of clowns are saying Tinubu announcing the end of fuel subsidy means he will be 2 million times worse than Buhari.

They are not seeing the big picture that BAT is not hiding whereas Buhari, when subsidy removal was one of the APC pledge before he took office in 2015, failed to deal with fuel subsidy removal for his entire 8 years as President.

If I were to take an educated guess, after the facts and after revelations about him, I would conclude Buhari, like several Presidents before him, could not resist retaining fuel subsidy to use in massively enriching his own governance crew as, for example, GEJ did mercilessly with the likes of Allison-Madueke scamming Nigeria of billions of dollars that could have been deployed productively elsewhere.

These are the developments, for intelligent and progressive-minded Nigerians, that show Tinubu is here to work uncompromisingly and sincerely for the development of Nigeria. We can't stop haters hating sha.

JagabanBorgu:

Indeed. Many Nigerians are bigoted sadists happy to cut there own nose to spite their face.

Fuel subsidy is one of the biggest organised crime in our Country impoverishing and underdeveloping Nigeria.

To that end, progressive Nigerians should be behind the Government bearing the burden of it's removal even if said Government is led by the devil.

That this is not the case for many, as we can see on this thread, is why I think restructuring and regional autonomy must complement all that Tinubu's plans to do.

The tribalistic, bigoted and anti-progress bitching of Nigerians is too much. All because someone they hate, due to their ethno-religious and sectional background, is in power.

Let us have regional autonomy so everyone can go and have control over the socio-economic direction of their own regions with their own homogenous people and needs.

That will be a progressive departure to what obtains currently where Nigerians are a people now totally incapable of pulling together, as we are seeing on this thread, in one progressive direction .

My advice to Tinubu is that he must not get comfortable with 'one Nigeria' as, for example, many Presidents in the past got used to the existence of fuel subsidy when they had pledged to remove it before gaining power.

Restructuring and the regional commissions he pledged must come on board within 6 months of his reign. We need to bring back patriotism and productively healthy competition into how Nigerians think and operate.

Only full restructuring and regional autonomy, where we all feel fully vested in the affairs and progress of our region, is the way forward.

It never surprises me when partisans support terrible decisions for political reasons.

I'm pro subsidy removal. Tinubu's unguarded announcement was in poor form.

There are some preparations that were designed to predate the removal to ameliorate some of the detrimental effects that are yet to be implemented. He has yet to have a review of the state of these programs before insisting on keeping to the deadline.

Any administrator with a half-working brain would have formed a team, performed a critical review, finalized necessary mechanisms, then start a sophisticated removal scheme (it may be gradual, may be a band, whatever solution the experts propose after carefully weighing the pros and cons).

The major complaint against Jonathan in 2012 was that he removed the subsidy suddenly. Many people were stranded at the destinations of their holiday trips and could not afford to return and resume work or reopen businesses. Buhari, being the consummate assh*le that he is decided to only fund 5 months, when he could easily have funded 9 months so the next administration has ample time to settle in before being waylaid by a major sociopolitical issue.

Tinubu being an experienced politico has no excuse. He has been a 2 time governor and a Senator. There are arrows in his quiver.

You cannot fight currency change while you were a candidate, say you will review the policy in your inaugural address, then in the same speech say as President you must follow the schedule on a far more impactful issue.

If he wants, he can sign an executive order that will re-route spending to subsidy. Use national security as an excuse. Then wait for the NASS election of principals to be concluded. Hand each of the principals N500m and get them to push a Supplementary budget that provides funding for 3 or as many months as he needs to get a handle on things.

Dangote expects refining to start in July. That is a Musk deadline. It might be delayed further.

This would set him apart from the disastrous Buhari regime. People notice these things. Like it was a lay up. An easy home run. Yet he chose instead to step on a rake.

The interesting part is that you guys defending this rubbish would have been making my points if you were in the opposition. But because you expect to earn dividends from this administration, you have to feign incompetency. Or act like you have no knowledge of Nigeria's convoluted political process.

OneTemplate is talking about "suffering for the greater good". If you cared about the greater good of Nigeria, you would not have voted for Tinubu. That is a fact. He is President now and he has to be supported when possible, but tell people how they'd navigate a thorny situation. Not try to pull at heart strings. Who Nigeria epp?

PS: If Atiku or Obi had done this as well. It will be well within reason to criticize them for the insensitivity as well. We must have higher standards than "my opponents would have stuck a fork in an outlet too" excuse. Especially when your entire campaign was about how you have better results of good governance to highlight than your opponents.

Ignoramus. Tinubu did not "remove" subsidy. Buhari's government did and cynically passed on the implementation phase of it onto Tinubu.

If you cannot get behind Tinubu , for whatever reasons motivate your bad belle for him, then at least think before you speak.

Soon as I saw the bolded above, I skimmed over everything else because rare to come accross Nigerians dispassionately progressive enough to see good in anything done by a President they are fundamentally baised against.

When Nigerians have bias against someone, most are incapable of rising above prejudice to note what matters or see the bigger progressive picture.

You are in that category meaning people like you don't give objective benefit-of-the-doubt allowance.to those you host bias against.

You believe Nigerians should not have voted for Tinubu, rather than democratically accept the will of the majority, and ostensibly hate Nigeria with your "who Nigeria epp" quip.

What a revealing combination. Go ahead and deny you are a radical IPOB element or a fundamentalist Obidullard.

This was Tinubu's first big test and he dropped the ball.

Apparently, the subsidy is supposed to elapse by June end. If he had been more measured in his statements, most folks will still be buying at the subsidized rate currently.

Starting mass panic and hoarding in your inaugural speech while still paying subsidy. Not even Buhari was that unlettered and he is the lowest bar.

I'll ignore the other inanities you typed as that screams "not intelligent enough to engage on the factual elements of the debate".

Petty character. If you're truly progressive then you would not have written what is shown below.

Any bright person would immediately write you off as a crass hater not worth any back and forth with.

I am not enamoured with Obi or Atiku either. Difference between us is that I respect the right of Nigerians to vote for them and I accept my subsequent responsibility to support the eventual winner per the overarching ethos of democracy.

Instead of running around, as you do, bitching shamelessly and pettily against the winner while conveniently forgetting it is Nigeria's progress I should be most concerned about.

You're a small-minded hater who sees people rather than ideas. Tinubu is your President and the central idea, greater than his character, is the progress the removal of fuel subsidy can/will deliver for Nigeria.. Deal with those realities.

What I wrote is fact.

Tinubu is not objectively better than his competition. It would be a different story if his competition was Buhari or Lamido or OUK. But it wasn't.

And you can choose to accept or disregard it. That's not a problem.

You know what is a problem? You asking any Nigerian to sacrifice for the greater good when you didn't. That is why I made that statement. So you don't run behind that cover next time. If you supported Tinubu, forget about greater good or benefit of doubt. His actions will be critically examined on their merits. And you should welcome it because he won the election.

Your principal cannot sit in Aso Rock and you're claiming he's a victim. That won't fly.

Besides, that is not the crux of the issue. You've latched onto that and again I'm not surprised. When you can't debate the substance of an argument, you focus on frivolities.

Tinubu goofed on this. When you're ready to talk about that quote me.
