Those same countries whose citizens arrogantly wag tongues at Nigeria even though we are subsidizing their very existence; their eyes have opened now!

Let them cry rivers and bow to the Giant of Africa.

They're leeches. Most of these countries' governments are aware but look the other way to meet their local consumption demands despite the damage it does to the Nigeria economy.

Whose fault is it? Blame the Nigerians especially the government officials who are knew deep in the smuggling business.

They are not leeches......They did not come here to steal our oil, you need to look at your own brothers that are taking it over to them.

I’m buying at the normal selling price. If it was removed by Obi or Atiku, i would still buy!

You people are getting it wrong. It's not about *how much you're buying fuel now*

When fuel was at the range of #20/litre, the country wasn't working..

When fuel was at the range of 65#, the country wasn't working..

When fuel was at the range of 95,120,190,,, the country wasn't still working..

Now, one of those things that can help the country move forward is removal of subsidy! Now, it has happened! What next? We shall see! I believe if government use the subsidy money for the betterment of Nigerians, we'll all feel and enjoy the result!
If subsidy removal must work, you will see a massive downsizing of govt employees very soon. And the low earners of 30k will be most affected.

Nigeria is a sick country!

How can we have border patrol agencies and be subsidizing PMS for all West African countries?

This is enough to retire all customs officers that work along Nigerian borders!
A lot of people are ignorant of what is happening in Nigeria. Do you think retiring all the custom officers at border will solve the problem? No bro, the big guys that call the shots don't stand at the border but their boys do and the boys listen to instructions from above or have themselves to blame for not listening. The best approach is the removal of subsidy while the money is channelled to something profitable to the citizens.

Almost double in R benin but triple in Nigeria. What is the essence? We feed them electricity but they still enjoy it better than us.

Why can't we help ourselves?

Wrong.

China, India is not bigger than the USA by landmass.
Only Russia is bigger than the US at 17.1million square kilometers.
The only other country at par with the USA in terms of size is only Canada at 9 million square kilometers.

Oga, stop comparing Nigeria with America.

The size of the US is as big as an entire continent.

The size of US border with Mexico is much much smaller

Also put into perspective the amount they spend on their border control compared to Nigeria

So size is not an excuse

I have maintained that Nigeria as an oil producing country got no business with how much all these countries around its borders are selling petrol. These countries are not oil producing countries.

We should concern ourselves with countries like Angola and Libya because they are oil producing countries and the last time I checked, Angola have subsidy in petrol to some extent and have total subsidy in diesel, kerosene, cooking gas and gas oil.making the citizens a beneficiary of their natural common wealth. Nigeria have none

Here in Nigeria, instead of tackling the endemic corruption in the Oil industry spearheaded by those in government, NNPC and Oil cabals, maintaining an effective border control to checkmate smuggling, the government turn around and inflict pain and hardship on the people by increasing the pump price of fuel masquerading it as subsidy removal

I am asking, What is the Nigerian common man benefiting from "Our" Oil

Vera Daves, Angola’s minister of finance, said removing the petrol subsidy was a sovereign decision of the Angolan state and was not influenced by external pressure from the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

According to a government report obtained by Xinhua, Angola’s ministry of finance had put forth a proposal for a phased reduction of petrol subsidy beginning in the second quarter of 2023.

The report also recommended a gradual and progressive removal of the subsidy on diesel and illuminating oil prices, with the process projected to last until 2025.

Angola has the fourth-lowest petrol prices in the world ($0.28) after Libya, Iran, and Venezuela, according to data compiled by Globalpetrolprices.com.

Thanks you for the bolded. Did Nigeria follow this process, if they had we won't be here talking about it. Don't forget that Angola is still subsidising cooking gas, kerosene and gasoil

Please dont mind them o. Not just illegal immigrants, but guns and drugs as well get smuggled to the ~US even with the best of border control technologies.

Smuggling of PMS is not only done by driving a tanker across the border, smugglers have devised all sorts of ingenious ways of smuggling it across which a host of Nairalanders have told us about in other threads, and yes, their is the complicity of the border official but it is not just straightforward as people make it to be

There's no country with a perfect border control architecture. Hundreds of thousands of Mexicans cross into the US every year despite how very manned it's.

Retiring them will not, rather killing them will be a warning signal for those so will relieved them of their duties. Nigeria is such a naught and stubborn country that need iron hand, you think that if Nigeria were to be like North Korea, many people would be killed every day

You closed borders but hundreds of millions of liters are taken to neighbouring countries.

If we can't safeguard our borders from economic sabotage, then how can we protect ourselves from foreign terrorists?

So the solution is to punish Nigerians for the corruption of custom officials.
But it's okay for cocoaine to be smuggled through the borders of the United States ba? Abi they are also incapable of using technology to prevent it. For any plan or system to work, humans have to cooporate and stay loyal to the cause.

Nigerians are corrupt. Even you that is talking, if they give you a job at that border, it might not take you up to 8 hours before you start accepting and even asking for bribe.

I am surprised you mentioned Angola and Libya perhaps you should added Venezuela to it also, but what you failed to mention is that those countries are also going through the same problem of underdevelopment and smuggling to neighbouring countries, go and confirm ther case of Venezuela.

`If you want to make a proper comparison check out the domestic prices of fuel in Saudi, UAE, Qatar, Oman, Russia etc who are major players in the oil business and all of whom now buy fuel locally at prices higher than in Nigeria and most of whom also used to subsidise fuel for their citizens. We will have these issues as long as their is a big difference in prices across border. People living on the Finnish border with Russia used to drive across to drive to buy cheap fuel, but with prices inN Russia almost the same as in Finland I doubt if it is still worth the hassles again.

And by the way what are the populations of these countries and how many cars have they got on the road which their governments are subsidising

It's not a must to comment if you don't have something very germane and relevant to a thread. Now that the subsidies have been removed, let the smugglers keep on with their trade and let's see if they'll make any more humongous profits.
the person above made a very sensible comment but you are free to think otherwise. Who do you think subsidy removal affect, the rich or the poor? Population of the poor in this country is a thousand miles ahead of the rich, yet all you’re concerned about is that they won’t make more profits. What happens to bringing this so called saboteurs of our economy to book instead of throwing away the bath water with the child?
