Roma: Lost on penalites (Europa).

Like my dad always says, penalites are never ever fair, and also a nice way for better teams to lose sometimes. I watched the match though, and Roma were not just good enough up front.

Fiorentina: Lost to a last minute goal (Confrence)

I honestly expected Fiorentina to win. Hammers were playing with relegation for most of the season, and were not safe until two weeks to the end, Fiorentina were comfortably in the top 8 of Serie A. Again quoting my dad...always take your chances. Fiorentina did not take their chances, and meanwhile, the Hammers had one chance to win, and they took it, AND it came in the dying minutes of the game. Man U v Bayern all over again.

Moral: Never play for penalites.

Inter: Lost by a lone goal (Champions League)

And to be honest, Inter did not look too good...plus, let's be honest, their frontline was made up of old men.(Dzeko is 37, Lukaku who replace him is in his 30'S already...meanwhile Man City has youthful and very fresh attackers). If not for their defence, and for the brilliance of Onana (who is truly a super goalkeeper...the lone goal was not his fault really, if he wanted to stop that goal he would have had to have super precogniton or something...not possible)...it would have been three nil.

Anyway, channeling my inner Giannis....there is no failure in sport. And having three Italian clubs in Euro finals, when some years ago, there were none...is success.

And the good news is, Inter, Roma and Fiorentina are back in Europe next season...so maybe one better.

This is not rocket science. In football, quality is everything. EPL for example has the best quality players across Europe and you can see how greatly they’re doing.

Italian football is a Shadow of what it used to be. Juve was the only outstanding team over the decade but, have been maligned with several internal issues.
The last time an Italian team got to the champions league semi's was in 2017 (Juventus). Well, we can say they are picking up. 3 Italian teams in the Champions league Quarters, two in the semi's and one at the final. An Italian team appeared in every European league final, good for uefa coefficient ranking if you ask me.

Just read a good book on Italian fooball history. Match fixing and Italian football are like 5 and 6.

Even now this past season, Juve got into trouble for match fixing.

I don't have to read that book. I'm an ardent follower of Italian football since 2000 when they played Euro 2000 final against France. So don't try to link Italian football with match fixing. Even your beloved epl is the Dubai of match fixing.

Seriously, you have to read a good book.

Calcio by John Foot is a good book. Some sections deal on the history of match fixing...

Plus recall the 2005 scandals.?

Italian football has been insular for too long that is why. Just like German soccer they have been slow to globalize and so this season it was like Italy versus the rest of the world in those competitions.

Until recently there was hardly foreign ownership of Italian clubs. With foreign ownership comes exposure to global commercial deals including tv rights and with more cash a club is able to buy better players, hire better coaches and pay all the crew better wages to motivate them.

And not just any specific club but across the league because better players across a league means the top teams will have better form due to better competition week in week out.

What has brought the resurgence of the Milan clubs has been their recent Chinese and American ownerships but until the whole league opens up and they remove the limitations of salary caps (due to lean purses) that repel the best talents they will not return to be Europe's soccer powerhouse. We are in the age of a global world. There is no way a striker earning 300,000 pounds a week will agree to move Italy and earn 150,000 pounds for the same number of goals he delivers all things being equal.

Word for the German soccer federation. Your clubs will not win anything ever again without globalization. Open up the Bundesliga.

Inter did well. They ought to have won that game in the first half. Man city were on the ropes. Lukaku ought to have started against dzeko.

Yeah, the way Inter battled Mancity so intensely in that final, you'll like to think that they weren't just playing to win the final but to sort of console and redeem the painful defeats of their fellow Serie A clubs, Roma & Fiorentina @ the hands the Spanish & English sides.

Why is NL so slow these days, this news that made waves days ago is just hitting the front page of NL.

Unlike the days of Lalasticlala as head of NL front-page, these days NL has become a hub of stale news, propaganda and an arm of the government to push whatever narrative suits them so as to discredit their opposition

So you noticed?

It's just a reflection of wat Italian football as become...and how much football as evolved...The Italian teams need to start tweaking there playing philosophy and try playing more in the front foot...tl

Roma got a goal against Sevilla and went to park the bus ..Sevilla equalized and the still parked the bus...they had to wait and hope for a penalty ...something that happens to be 50/50.. unfortunately they weren't lucky

Inter was better against city ...taught hard and made life difficult but even if they had equalized in the second half they would have parked the bus and hoped to play on counter and then hope to drag the game to penalties...another gamble style of game...just like Roma

There are different ways to success in footal...but the rather pragmatic side is something not really working anymore...and that's wat the Italian teams kind of favor in style ..they are the most user of the 3-5-2 formation in their league a formation which is more rigid and defensive than offensive...

The only team that really plays possession based and attacking football is Napoli ( and partly lazio) and it's no surprise Napoli cruised to the league title

The quality in the league is also a set back even the home grown players ...Italy can hardly bost of fast ..skillful..exciting attackers...but year in year out the produce rugged defenders ..most which are not even really good in possession
@bold

Exactly what led to Roma losing that match, I was livid.
How can you be on the front foot, play so well, score a goal then go back to park the bus. Roma could have even gotten another goal if they had kept the attacking momentum especially in the first half.
Mourinho screwed that match
