This has created a lot of confusion in the area of Mathematics.

What is (5 - 5) ÷ (5 - 5)?
Is the answer 0 or 1?
Give reasons.

A lot of people have used it to prove mathematical inconsistencies like 4 = 5.
By saying: 0=0
20-20 = 25-25
5(4)-5(4)= 5(5)-5(5)
4(5-5) = 5(5-5)
Dividing both sides by 5-5
4(5-5)÷(5-5)=5(5-5)÷(5-5)
4=5

The problem with this Maths is that, (5-5)÷(5-5) must not be equal to 1. It is equal 0. It had to be equal to 0 so that 4 = 5 will be invalid. Because in the actual sense, 4 is never equal to 5. So, (5-5)÷(5-5) = 0

Two things

1. Zero has no multiplicative inverse so any number divided by zero is undefined.


2. You have to open the bracket before dividing by 5-5.......PEMDAS

0/0 = undefined

1. Your initial expression where you derived the answer was inconsistent to begin with.
20-20 != 25-25 at surface value.

It's the same as saying x=25.
If we inserted the variable x into both side of the expression x-20= x-25. We'll have
25-20 = 25-25 which of course has changed the assignment of the expression.

Since your initial statement was wrong, your final answer was also wrong. Since 4!=5 in mathematics then your expression was wrong to begin with

Sometimes in mathematics we can divide using factorization, let's assume we say
Let (5-5) = x
