Charly Boy, whose real name is Charles Oputa, a renowned entertainer, has recently issued a stern warning to Premier Records Limited regarding his intention to take legal action against the company. The basis for this legal action is an alleged breach of their contractual obligations.

According to Charly Boy, the record label has violated the terms of the musical contracts that were signed approximately 35 years ago. The veteran artist claims that these contracts have since expired, yet Premier Records continues to use his musical works without obtaining the necessary permissions, thereby infringing upon his copyrights.

In a letter composed by his lawyer, Mr Rockson Igelige, and made available to the press in Abuja on Wednesday, Charly Boy expressed his displeasure with the situation. The letter, dated June 19, 2023, revealed that Charly Boy had signed Artist's Recording Contracts with Premier Records in 1988, 1990, and more recently.

Charly Boy's lawyer contended that Premier Records should promptly return the master tapes, artworks, promotional materials, and any other relevant and confidential information related to his music within a 30-day period. Additionally, they demanded that the company fulfill their outstanding royalty payments to the artist.

In summary, Charly Boy intends to take legal action against Premier Records Limited due to their alleged breach of contractual obligations, which involves the unauthorized use of his musical works and failure to fulfill royalty payments.
