If this one happen for Lagos, our Igbo brothers would have been shouting at the top o their voice now. That IPOBY woman would have asked Sanwolu to justify why he would allow rain to fall that much.

With this report of annual flooding, how landlords in this estate still rip their tenants with high cost of rent is beyond human imaginations.

According to the narrator in the video, the flood also completely submerged a coaster bus.

damage control does not need further government damages. what was not done for the estate was that that same government departments was to have ensure that the housing estate had a flood waters passages when it happens.

flood waters passages plan is always essential when a building development for a large land area is to be embarked upon by a business prospector or estate agent. there are departments in government ministry of land and works responsible for overseen city development.

it appears that in Nigeria, everybody is chasing money in the wrong places. we surely need the spirit of God almighty to redirect the people in this country. just a little discipline required.

It's not a matter of pretending, we all know the country is bad & I use to think like u before, wishing for the world to end. But in the actual sense, why wish for the world to end, when anyone can actually leave the world & face judgement? It is a selfish reasoning, wishing bad on others. If u feel the life is becoming unbearable, u leave, saying everyone must die with u bespeaks u are not serious & selfish. Think about it...
baba you don dey enjoy de country now, e be lyk say you don dey see small small money, but man, its not easy in this country, the suffering is real, it remain for me to carry arm.

Actually, there is an ongoing flood in Lugbe , but the pictures posted above are not from the scene please

Oga, there's no need arguing this particular issue.

Trademore estate in Lugbe and Efab estate in Lokogoma, are unarguably the worst estates to reside in Abuja.

Poor structural planning, no security, no drainage systems, complete lack of anything resembling estate management and services. It's in this same Trademore estate that terrorists were arrested by the DSS while plotting bomb related attacks in Abuja, sometime earlier this year.

The annoying part is the exorbitant rates of rents in these pathetic environments.

This was never the case until Julius Berger carried out expansion work on the Airport road and diverted drainage towards the estate environ .

JB is to blame and not the residents .

A simple EIA would have prevented this by having JB divert flood waters properly in well designed drainage system.

Yes, it pains when you see hard earned money invested going through destruction like this. There is no pity if the money is part of our collective wealth being diverted by some political miscreants for their personal gains

No. It's poor urban planning and poor environmental awareness. I can bet that this estate is littered anyhow with garbage that blocks the drains. Let's not forget poor engineering and substandard materials used in building this (and almost every) estate in Nigeria

Shouldn't the government have been proactive in the first place and not approve the construction of such a huge piece of real estate in what looks like a flood plain?

What does him being a "devout" Catholic have anything to do with this. He built a terribly planned residential property.

Trademoore was built on a flood plain. There is little that can be done aside outright demolition of the houses. This is a yearly occurrence.

Nigeria is just an unreal place. Year in, year out, this same estate and same story of flood, destructionof propertiesand loss of lives. The estate flood, people die, makes headlines for a day or two, flood recedes, people count their losses and move on. Wait for next year, rinse and repeat. You would begin to imagine when exactly will people start demanding real actions and for elected officials to live up to their responsibilities.

QUIT BLAMING GOVERNMENT FOR EVERYTHING…
CITIZENS ALSO HAVE RESPONSIBILITIES (not just rights, as many Nigerians seem to think).

9jaRealist:

This Trademore that was built on flood path…
Every year they serve them quit/demolition notice…
Every year they go to court to fight the notices…

Every year the estate is ravaged by floods.

Next year, we go again. WELCOME TO NIGERIA! embarassed
