*The Global Financial Summit in France: How Presidents were Separated from Presidents*

POEM Extrapolates

The very essence of a bell is ringing. When the bell refuses to ring and begins to clap, then the clapper has got a new kinsman. It is even a more confiscating travesty if the bell cannot make any cohesive sound at all, even at the prompting of an external ringer!

During the recent global financial summit organised by President Emmanuel Macron of France, some African leaders went to represent Africa while others went to represent self advertorium. Macron must have shaken his head sideways while some trudged into the auditorium, and nodded while others walked in unaided.

Some of the high profile attendees included: The Managing Director of IMF, World Bank President, Special representative of US President Joe Biden, and other global leaders. Outstanding among African leaders were: Presidents William Ruto of Kenya and Cyril Ramaphosa of South Africa, both of whose speeches generated wild applauses.

Ramaphosa boldly declared that Africans are not beggars, in alignment with Ruto who called for equal treatment for all, stating categorically that Africa should not be seen as a continent that needs generosity, but as an equal partner in business. The standing ovation that greeted Ruto's speech was convulsive.

While the Nigerian president failed to join other panelists on stage, rather asking the Nigerian Ambassador to represent him, he was reported by Dele Alake as having spoken to financial leaders, presidents of AFREMIX and EBRD in a sideline meeting, stating that "We must stimulate recovery for the growth and prosperity of our people". 'Recovery' in Macron's country while homeland was burning with recovery issues.

By the way, why couldn't Mr President join other panelists scheduled along with him on stage, after his page boys bragged he would? If you hug a fish seller you must smell fish. If 'recovery' fails to navigate its meanings also around stolen election mandates, then there is a hole in the pocket of its philosophy. Yes, we must stimulate the recovery of every stolen election mandate!

This is POEM.
