The French president, Emmanuel Macron, is facing one of the toughest challenges yet of his second term after rioting across the country continued for a fourth night. Despite deploying tens of thousands of police, the government has struggled to contain the violence. It first broke out after a traffic policeman on June 27th shot dead a teenager in a rented car who failed to obey orders to stop.

Here's a round-up of what's been happening on another dramatic night in France.

Malls and showrooms have been looted. There has been vandalism and arson on the streets and rioters have reportedly looted armories and video footage of armed rioters have surfaced all over social media. NDTV cannot verify the authenticity of these videos, but most have been shared by verified social media handles.

French Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin said there have been at least 471 arrests so far

He said the violence was of "much less intensity" than the previous night when more than 900 people were arrested.Things were far quieter in Paris, with only sporadic incidents reported But chaos continued in cities including Marseille, where 87 people were arrested and a gun store was looted

The mayor of Marseille called on the national government to immediately send additional troops.The government earlier deployed 45,000 police officers overnight to quell any further unrest

Officials also called on regional authorities to shut down overnight bus and tram services nationwide. Marseille's Pride event, which was scheduled for Saturday, is just one of many major events nationwide to have been called off - in part due to police resources being diverted

slavery is an ancient trade. Notable warriors in Africa raided villages and towns to get slaves for farming among other things. There were also Arab slaves, european slaves etc. Agricultural revolution of 18th century increased demand for slaves in Europe and North America.
No culture treated slaves fairly. Some Arab slaves were even castrated.
