GeneralPula:

Recall that the administration had declared the Estate a disaster zone, adding that the decision followed the “consistent and persistent” threat from flooding in the Estate, and urged residents to promptly evacuate.
You sound like somebody that can think outside the box. Let say you’re the government, what solution would you propose here?

Remember, it’s a flooded area. Flooding will also jeopardize the place sooner or later & it can even kill people residing their..

So what will you do?

Who gave them permission to build land there? Who sold the land to dem? I am sure ur answer will be fct authority, so they should be the one to carry the burden and not the people, government should stop blaming people for their own misdeed

If that is the case then most part of Lagos is disaster Zone and it should be demolished because it only takes small rain for most part of Lagos to be flooded including the almighty lekki

Demolition should be the last option,
The FCT minister should get a great civil engineering company to find a solution to this problem, if all ideas is all exhausted, then relocation and compensation must be done before demolition activities.

the whole of that phase v is a problem....most of the estate developers have no papers and the authorities gave them enough room to do whatever they like even some estates are on sewage lines and I blame the authorities for that. Though the authorities always advertise on radio to stop people from buying and building houses there but no one listens.

Once the detailed analysis and design is finished in that phase v,there will be some estates that will go down because the next fct minister is either el rufai protege or the tinubu guy and they are just like El rufai.

Demolition should be the last option after all possible solutions must have been exhausted.

If their lands have original papers, the government should pay compensation to them before the demolition and relocation.

The government won't even pay full compensation undecided

Oga,
It's not possible for Government to sack the entire Estate because of water way.
It can only affect those building along water ways to avoid another catastrophic situation.

LASG better wake up and learn from FCTA.. there are so many unapproved buildings and estates in Abuja that are being demolished as we speak.

Lagos that used to be a model state has turned to something else due to unchecked influx of refugees and migrants who have refused to go and develop their region, erecting illegal structures everywhere and our people are silent, playing dumb. Oju yin a ku ja.

I am not in the best position to prefer a solution for the government but I will suggest they engage with the residents of the estate, hear their opinions, and what they think will be done to help their situation. Government can as well provide them with options like relocating them to another area. It's high time we start considering the plight of our citizens the way other developed countries does. These are hard times and any decisions that will affect the livelihood of our citizens ought to come with a cushioning effect. Some kind of palliative.

You are only bringing the empathy angle, and you are sounding like it is govt fault that people with open eyes go n buy land in wrong places. they ignore warnings

Nigerians are very funny people, you will see people build houses in wrong places and keep bribing govt officials to sustain the project but when Govt finally decide to do the needful becos the project pose a threat the people will that claiming Victim"

You can't build houses on water channel then start play the empathy card online, it is the responsibility of govt to take tough decisions people don't want to take esp. when its comes to securing lives.

You go build house under high tension and you are speaking big grammar should find a solution for you .. undecided like srsly
Re: Trademore Residents Protest Planned Demolition (Video, Photos) by Dijita: 6:34pm On Jul 03, 2023
This is an estate. This is not a place people just buy from Omo-onile and build without proper approval. The FCT I believe approved the estate. Did they not check out the location to make sure it is not a place subject to flood? If they were negligent in given approval, they are liable to find an engineering solution. That is the purpose of government.

We are humans and not animals. Even animals do take care of their own. Empathy is synonymous to being human so it's not out of place to show empathy to the affected.
See my brother, Nigerian government always look for an easy way out as opposed to finding a better and sustainable ways to tackle a situation just to make sure that there is something left to enter their pocket at the end of the day.
It's more economical for whomever that is in charge to bring bulldozer and demolish the whole place, leave it bare and siphon the remaining funds than to find a way to channel the floods properly to a place where it will have no or less effect. Yes some buildings will definitely give way yet a thoughtful government will employ the services of engineers to examine the estate and map out a better way to construct drainages. I don tire to speak grammar my dear but I strongly insist that demolition should be the last option.
