Yes they had influence over a federal government university in Ibadan.

Azikiwe as Nigerian ceremonial President was the appointed Visitor to the school, while Akanu Ibiam was the school council Chairman.

Infact, Azikiwe ensure he used his role as Visitor to replace Akanu Ibiam at the end of his tenure, with another Igbo as council Chairman, and same Igbo was also replaced by another Igbo. Azikiwe ensured that both the school Principal and Council Chairman were Igbo at all times to advance his Igbo domination agenda.
