Jos Plateau with its cold temperature in certain months of the year, and occurrences of ice blocks falling from the sky in rainy season should also experience Snow but too much wahala in Naija will not permit it. grin

Icy hail is different from snow. Almost every part of the world get hail. Snow falls only in winter season.

The winter season oscillate between North and Southern hemisphere belt 60-90deg. latitude. Nigeria lies on the Equatorial belt and our weather is largely influenced by the Sun and the movement of the ITCZ. That's why the tropics encounter the largest amount of rainfalls in the world.

When it's Summer in the North, it's Winter in the South and vice versa

so u think it's the 1st time snow falls in Africa
Many people failed geography in school or they didn't understand geography
Or they didn't read geography
Or they don't know geography
And now as adults are totally clueless to the climate distribution in the world then go about ignorantly raising alarm in the wrong place.
Ah.
As an adult out of school, one should still pick up books and read. Education is continuous. It's not just for passing exam.

ArcSEMPECJ:

Hmmm , if snow ever falls eeh..... Federal Government will open office on our heads , create a ministry Dept for it , call it natural Disasters and run a fiscal budget while NASS will facilitate the budget padding......

#600Billion will be brought out to clear the Snow in Abuja

#350billion will be spent for palliatives to the ghost masses...

Politicians will try to cash out from different levels as well , possibly #6 billion will be sent to each Local government in Nigeria to clear the snow and create palliatives ...

North will claim the most affected area due to land mass...

South West will support North and seek for more posts and brotherhood inorder to form YORUNALI Nation...

South South will huzzle with the South East to provide adequate health Care system but their region's politicians will try to be greedy and selfish to it.

Middle Beltians will have nobody to assist or help , therefore more pneumonia will paralyse them...

Then online Poor Masses will open a thread to discuss it even in their hungry state....

#So pathetic#

God knows the heart of men, and is not ready to accept such propaganda from Naija .....

Definitely you worked with Observer newspapers before. This your observation tire me reach bone.

It would be great if snow falls in Nigeria
Nigeria is in the tropics
South Africa is not.
It will never snow in Nigeria or the tropics unless the entire earth rotated 90 Degrees with the North & South poles facing East & West.
Such an event would be of galactic scales and would probably be leading to the end of the Milkyway galaxy that this earth is part of.

We should also have this experience in Nigeria, even if na once

snow falls in Nigeria just for one day will lead to deaths for thousands if not millions of people.

reasons:

1. houses and house construction in Nigeria is for warm weather conditions and if you notice that European houses are double layered blocks with a little space in between trapping air that prevents the outside rooms temperatures are not the same as inside rooms temperatures.

2. rooms in Europe and elsewhere with snow weather make use room temperature heaters to warm trapped air in the rooms for circulation.

3 . a room temperature of @14 degree Celsius could be fatalistic in Nigeria to the wiping of very large parts of the Nigerian population overnight.

4. I learnt that in Jo's city most hotels and public buildings have heaters constructed with the building.

5. People living countries with snow falls tend to be more realistic and practical in their life endeavours and approach to living because they are very conscious of a period of months for little activities due to snow falls and people movements restrictions.

6. in Nigeria we are truly not that lucky to have warm weather all year round, it gives rooms to careless attitudes to doing things and procrastination. people procrastinate and government also procrastinate.

very big problems.

Well said . Don't mind all these ignorant people that are wishing for snow..they don't know that for six months nothing can grow .
Ive lived in europe and south africa before and it never snowed in south africa while I was there because it only happens once in a while . Why else would it make the headlines ? However its still freezing even without snow ....I used to wear 5 layers of clothing . Jos isnt that cold that buildings have central heating ...its just that most buildings don't have ac except hotels and banks and they hardly use the ac,
Come to think of it .... when it snows you can't survive outdoors for one night...it wouldn't be bad if snow were to fall in nigeria right now so it can kill all the herdsmen who have been killing nigerians.

Na wa. It’s obvious many of you use data to only troll Nairaland and never to learn new information. Snow can never fall in Nigeria. Our region of the world is tropical in nature. We can experience hail. The best case scenario to relieve one of heat is a drop in temperature to around eight degrees. We can not go lower due to climate.
