The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has threatened to impose a two-week sit-at-home in the Southeast, starting from July 31 to August 14.

The group said the lockdown is in response to the demand from Biafran people who are clamoring for increased civil disobedience.

The fresh threat of another lockdown comes after hours the Igbo apex social cultural group, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, and other Southeast leaders announced a plan to meet President Bola Ahmed Tinubu over the insecurity crisis in the region.

IPOB's announcement has sparked fears of economic and social disruption in the Southeast.

Businesses and schools are likely to be closed during the lockdown, and there could be widespread travel disruptions.

The group has also warned oil companies operating in the Biafran territory to shutdown oil exploration on these dates to avoid the anger of the Biafran people, which may come with heavy consequences.

The threat of a two-week sit-at-home has raised tensions in the Southeast, and it is unclear how the government will respond.
