Shaping The Future With Web3 And Blockchain Technology: KBM Expo 2023 by CityCrieradvert: 9:39am On Jul 15, 2023
Abuja recently hosted the first KBM Conference on Web3 and Blockchain Technology. This event was a groundbreaking educational exposition focused on web3, and it included participation from secondary school students in Nigeria making it the first of it kind in Africa.
Various stakeholders from the education industry and the general public came together for this one-day event to showcase digital knowledge and innovation. Dignitaries from the Ministry of Communication and Digital Economy, along with the FCT Secondary Education Board, attended the conference.
During a press briefing, Mrs. Ayomide Arowolo, the convener of Know the Blocks Maven (KBM), highlighted the importance of upgrading Nigeria's educational system and promoting digital knowledge and innovation. KBM was established to bridge the knowledge gap by providing educational programs on web3 and the blockchain ecosystem to Nigerian youth, particularly students aged 13-30. Since its establishment in 2021, KBM has conducted several workshops for students and the general public.
The conference featured a diverse lineup of speakers, including Dr. Janie Dam from Los Angeles, USA, as well as trainers and team members of the KBM community. The event also included African cultural dance performances, workshops, a career fair, networking sessions, and panel discussions.
One of the highlights of the event was the Hackathon presentation, where students from different government secondary schools showcased their solutions using "Blockchain Innovation in the Nigerian Entertainment Industry," "Blockchain Innovation in the Nigerian Health Sector," and "Blockchain Innovation in the Nigerian Educational Sector. These solutions addressed various challenges and utilized blockchain technology to bring about positive changes.
The Founder of KBM called for increased government participation and support in nurturing Africa's young innovators. They commended the Nigerian government, through the FCT Education Board, for granting access to the KBM community to establish blockchain clubs in Senior High Schools in Abuja. As a result of this partnership, KBM will be the first to pilot the i-learn the blocks program with several schools. The success story of KBM is evident through the over 80 graduated students who are well-versed in the web3 and blockchain ecosystem.
Currently, this partnership with the Nigerian government has led to a significant increase in course registrations, with over 3000 students seeking opportunities to explore the possibilities that web3 brings. For more information, visit www.knowtheblocksmaven.com.ng.
