Long over due. Nigeria has a huge deposit of lithium in Sambisa and around Lake Chad basin. One of the cause of insecurities in the region. Like it's happening in DR Congo.

Why can’t Nigeria be independent for once?

Can’t you empower your citizens to do these things and have all the money by yourself?
There are people that are capable of doing these things with adequate empowerment and support from the government, but No, they love China more than their citizens

Which Nigerian company do you feel is capable of producing lithium batteries locally?

How did Chinese learn to do stuff their own. Years ago, they sent their citizens to America to learn. They came back and started building. Nigeria can do same. But they prefer the other way so government officials can pocket some money

People here complaining about China coming to take OUR(?) Lithium have no idea that China is the biggest player in Lithium both in terms of Lithium deposits and Battery development.
Calm down.

Since Nigerians cannot do it themselves na? When PO spoke of human capital development, the Sabinas & Sabinuses said he was just a neophyte in politics. They have selected their political grandparents now based on tribe. These grandpatrons of corruption & electoral malpractice have started ignoring their tribal selectors to beg people, who their own country invested in & developed, to come and help them further enslave their own supporters! grin

Where are the business incentives to make them come and set up lithium batteries factories

If I was Nigerian president, it’s fine to remove subsidy but why don’t you offer great incentives and encourage alternatives via green energy

By now I should be seeing the FG build Solar farms and wind turbines springing up left right and centre throughout the country

By now the FG should be offering tax free incentives or tax breaks to companies who import solar panels into the country or lithium
Batteries which form part of an inverter system which is still very very expensive by now .

I know it’s one thing to read up or have ideas on paper and think one can solve Nigerian problems but trust me Nigerian problems aren’t that complicated as people think it is

Power generation is a Benjamin Franklin ( the man who discovered electricity ) almost 300 years ago

It’s a disgrace for any country in 2023 to lack power supply or not enough of it. There are a million ways to generate enough electricity for any given generation.

Like it irks my soul so much, like the solutions are so so simple and straight forward

Like you don’t even need any PhD to guess which other alternative a country has to go if it’s removed it’s subsidy on fossil fuels

Like Nigerians leaders annoy me so much

How can you be oblivious to the most obvious solutions to a simple
Problem

Like do you know how many industries and how many businesses will spring up if Nigeria had 24-7 electricity

Omo I tire for Nigeria ooo

For heavens sake why would you do that FDI is never good for a developing economy

There are many battery producers in Nigeria

There are at least 10 in nnewi... Why not empower them give them loan to scale up

Then provide platforms for them to become contract manufacturers to electric car companies

Dude,

Also empower innoson to go into electric car production

And investors brings in 100 million dollars... Over 20 years takes out $15 billion dollars... Has he helped the economy or killed it more?

You give a Nigerians $100 million dollars loan... He invest makes $15 billion, 95% of that wealth would remain in Nigeria... That's how you grow and economy

Dude, we are talking about lithium batteries here not shakabula batteries produced in aba. The new era batteries.

I think the strategy maybe to Build-Run-Transfer, which is usually a faster Route to market strategy for development that serious nations use.

The important thing is to ensure that there are policies in place to ensure a transfer of knowledge and technical expertise.

Dangote’s refinery seems difficult, but today it’s functioning

Dangote refinery isn't functional yet. And lithium battery production requires very high standard of monitoring which our government doesn't possess

It'll be difficult for government to do so because Nigeria doesn't have the technical knowhow to achieve the production of lithium batteries. The Innoson you sited has been manufacturing vehicle for over a decade not but still lack the capacity to develop and produce its own internal combustion engine. It's not as easy as we all think.

Your points are valid.

But, why do you think we could easily acquire the tech, know-how and production lines required to effectively make this work?

Do not forget our refineries are currently obsolete and no one is talking about it, it's just simply being ignored.

The eediots started a useless amnesty initiative (with zero plans on how to max the country's benefits) to a bunch of lowlifes who wasted the invested wealth and came back from abroad with nothing to contribute to the wealth of the country.

Remember, this is Nigeria. So please, explain how you think we can make this work without outside help ( Not like with it, the baastards can achieve anything)

Smh... Just too cynical about these thug lords and their word of mouth projects...

Like it's happening in DR Congo.

Combined with Uranium which is also abundant around the lake Chad basin area....it will be a miracle if that region will ever know peace

Bros if you know the numbers of people the government is sponsoring to go abroad to study you'll know that it's part the government and part the people fault. Most people sent abroad by the government stay back abroad and don no plan to ever come back to benefit the nation. Chinese student most don't even spend a night abroad after graduating from foreign university. They rush back to their country to find something doing

They have been using the insecurity in the North to mine lithium illegally and supply arms to terrorist in exchange for protection for their staff.

I don't know how to feel about this. Is this aiding the silent sponsors of terrorism to set up shop or is this for the greater good ? Only time will tell ,while the average Nigerian caught up in this massacre continue to pay with their blood.
