The House of Representatives has requested that the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) prolong the validity of UTME results to three years. This decision was made during a plenary session on Wednesday after discussing a motion presented by the representative for Ekiti North 1 Federal Constituency, Akin Rotimi.


The lower legislative chamber acknowledged that the current UTME exam results issued by JAMB are valid for only one year and urged the board to conduct the exam at least twice annually. In his motion, Hon. Rotimi urged JAMB to reconsider its existing arrangement in order to align with global standards.


According to him, this action would immediately alleviate the financial burden on students and their parents/sponsors who have to pay for the exam every year. It would also provide candidates with multiple opportunities to sit for the exam within a year.


The lawmaker argued that there is no provision in the existing act that establishes JAMB which prevents it from promptly implementing the resolutions of the House on this matter.


The lawmakers also agreed to establish a temporary committee within the House to collaborate with JAMB and the Ministry of Education to ensure the swift implementation of this decision.
