Dr. Pate, Abiru, Raji, Alake Tops Tinubu's Ministerial List, Edun For CBN by Holuwarseun15(m): 2:28pm On Jul 20, 2023
It seems that the dominant names of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s ministerial nominees who are politicians would mostly be former Governors from the North, Quest Times can now report.

Also leading the list of technocrats are the former Minister of State for Health during the Jonathan administration Dr. Ali Pate, Senator Tokunbo Abiru representing Lagos State, a former Lagos State Finance Commissioner under the Fashola administration and Mr. Dele Alake, currently (super) Special Adviser to the President.

While Alake is tipped to become Information Minister-possibly with a new name for the ministry, Pate will become Health Minister and Abiru is pencilled down to be Nigeria’s next Finance Minister.

In the same vein, Mr. Wale Edun, currently a Special Adviser is tipped to be the next Central Bank Governor. Another technocrat expected on the list is Mr. Ahmed Raji, SAN from Oyo State.

Politicians expected on the list include former Governors Nasir El Rufai, Abdullahi Ganduje, Bello Mattawale and Atiku Bagudu. Bagudu has been tipped to become the next Minister of Agriculture while it is rumoured that Rufai may go to Interior Ministry. For Ganduje, there are now suggestions that the former Kano State Governor should be put forward instead as the Chairman of the party instead of being a minister.

An authoritative list who spoke to Quest Times Wednesday night said these are some of the names on the final list. But he warned that there may still be last minute changes as the “amount of pressure being put on the President has been has been unprecedented.”

He also disclosed that the current Special Adviser for Revenues, Dr. Zach Adedeji has been pencilled down to become the next Executive Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service, FIRS.

There were also indications that in the forthcoming Tinubu cabinet, there may not be the Minister of State rank. But that is if the President accepts the recommendation to make all ministers in his cabinet substantive.

Not that I care but I found it hypocritical that same people that complained about Jonathans government being South East dominateed ( which was obvious lies) because South East had SSG and deputy Senate President and deputy speaker,

Are now grabbing everything

While the news report is still very specilative for the names and roles mentioned, where exactly in the report did you read a Yoruba name as Minister of Health or Works as you have claimed?

I would recommend that the Minister of FCT be given firstly to a SouthEasterner or secondly to a SouthSoutherner.

It should not be the exclusive preserve of Northern politicians.

In the 1st republic headed by Tafawa-Balewa, all the Ministers of Lagos where from the North.

Yar'Adua and also Ribadu.

That same zone has very qualified and eminent technocrats that are impossible to ignore by any serious government. I thought you and your ilk always shout merit? Or is merit only applicable when it’s your tribe. Please visit Obi your twitter President for your appointments. When something favors your zone, you never come out to write foolish comments. Hypocrite.

The Economy is Tinubu's strong point. That is his Joker.

Tinubu is Nigeria's first President who is a Finance technocrat and expert. That would have been MKO Abiola, but for the aborted 1993 election.

He has his team from Lagos who are already the best there is in Nigeria considering their output for Lagos State within the context of Africa.

Even the current Director General of the Budget Office (Ben Akabueze) and the former FIRS head (Babatunde Fowler), are part of this Lagos gang of economic experts.

So do not be surprised if the economic roles you allege, are truly totally dominated by the Lagos gang, regardless of their respective states of origin.

This is the era where Naija is now Lagos.

This team have done it for Lagos while other states were sleeping. They are the best suited to do it for Nigeria.

Relying on a speculative list, worst off from an unknown source to run a tribal commentary shows your level of sophistication. You ONLY see things through tribal lens, a testament to whom you truly are.

Don’t be parochial, learn objectivity, it is for a reason

I don't need to know anything about Economics to know that a winning team who managed to grow the economy of Lagos to be the 5th largest in Africa, is the best team that is accustomed to achieving results.

President Tinubu should not make the mistake of appointing another medical doctor as the minister of health! It'll not augur well for the Nigerian dwindling healthcare system!

I know that Ali Pate has the international exposure to hold the office but the problem usually come from the overbearing influence of NMA and other physician-dominated pressure groups. We need someone who is not affiliated to NMA to handle the affairs of the ministry of health.

Successive ministers of health who were medical doctors with affiliation to NMA have shown that they don't a robust health sector that can compete effectively with the rest of the world. They do this by trying to suppress other healthcare professionals who are not physicians thereby preventing these professionals from effectively contributing their knowledge to ensure a better health outcome for the patient.

Such parochial attitude happens only here in Nigeria and that is one major factor that has continually dragged our healthcare system backwards. Any president or governor that wants to succeed in the health sector must learn to do things differently by appointing non-physicians with postgraduate training in a health-related field as ministers and commissioners of health. This should even be extended to headship of our healthcare institutions like hospitals.

We must imbibe international best practices if we want to improve the lots of our healthcare system. A word is enough for the wise!
