According to Burkina Faso's interim president, Ibrahim Traore, Russian President Vladimir Putin is willing to provide weapons free of charge to an African nation during the ongoing tensions in Niger. In a conversation with Sputnik Africa on Monday, Traore discussed the support received from Russia, emphasising that Putin was extremely generous and offered unrestricted assistance in supplying the necessary weaponry to combat terrorism in the African nation. "There are no restrictions, they do not refuse licenses, and it is at a good price. Russia is also ready to deliver weapons to us for free," Traore told Sputnik Africa. Putin's office issued a statement following a meeting with Traore ear;ier this month during the Russia-Africa summit in St.Petersburg, "Bilateral ties between Russia and Burkina Faso have traditionally been friendly. Last year we celebrated the 55th anniversary of diplomatic relations. We know that people in Burkina Faso treat Russia with sympathy and interest." "We are ready to work together to develop trade and economic cooperation. Our trade is not extensive yet, even in terms of Russia-Africa relations, but I believe we will discuss it today: there is room to grow," the statement added. Traore's remarks come at a time of heightened tensions in neighbouring Niger. The situation was triggered by the overthrow of democratically elected President Mohamed Bazoum by soldiers, resulting in General Abdourahmane Tchiani assuming control of the country. The military coup was met with widespread condemnation from several nations, including the United States and the United Nations Security Council. Burkina Faso and Mali respond to Niger coup The military governments of Burkina Faso and Mali also responded to the military takeover in Niger, saying, "The transitional governments of Burkina Faso and Mali express their fraternal solidarity ... to the people of Niger, who have decided with full responsibility to take their destiny in hand and assume the fullness of their sovereignty before history." "Any military intervention against Niger would be tantamount to a declaration of war against Burkina Faso and Mali," the statement added. In response to the military coup in Niger, the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) made a strong statement, declaring that it would take decisive action, which might involve the use of force, if President Mohamed Bazoum is not reinstated to his position. 3 Likes

A welcome development. Since our leaders head don block, let them continue causing nuisance here and there. The same whites people used ordinary mirror, comb and wine to steal our resources from our forefathers, let assume those ones are not exposed enough, so what is our problem again, same people still want to bring weapons for us to kill ourselves so they can still loot our resources. Military coups and military rule as a whole will not be tolerated. If they want the support of the people, then let them stir up an election bid...or impeach the president through their constituency representatives. If the case is that bad, and the military is really not in support of the corruption of the political class....then the people can have their way. Well, I am not completely against the military take over, since Africans don't know how to practice democracy, only to the benefit of the whites. A military take over in the 21st century could prove profiting to the people of Niger because such a leader could be visionary as he is fighting against several opposition both home and abroad. I have always say, democracy is not fit for Africa, because the so called leaders rig themselves up there only to loot for their entire time in office making the masses more impoverished. Such can never happen in em countries that handed us this God forsaken democracy. Through this democracy, our governments have been ran by the foreigners who claimed had given us independence that we did not deserve (Lol). I cannot conclude about military rule sha until I have seen the end of a 21st century military government. Who knows, it might just be the redemption of dear Niger.
