phr0nesis:Weaker Naira and inflation mean less purchasing power of average Nigerians because the rich and upper middle class go abroad for treatment. Multinationals are accountable to global shareholders. Operations in increasingly impoverished climes are not profitable enough to remain. Simple economics. 2 Likes 1 Share |

casualobserver:You yourself know this thing you spewed is bunkum. Is 290 people not a lot? This doesn't even include the people indirectly employed by them. An international company just exited the country due to the harsh business environment and you're downplaying it like it's nothing. If 10 of them exit, how many will be left? 3 Likes |

ShaqFu:And they ask why do gainfully employed people japa. Quality control and production managers at GSK would be well paid people. But suddenly now have no job. Imagine if one of them missed the chance to japa 5 or 10 years ago. By now their children would have settled in abroad already. 3 Likes |

casualobserver: Talk is cheap. You think profitable production is having an over bloated workforce like the nigerian civil service? Alot of production especially is pharma and food industries are automated with few personnel ensuring set parameters and quality control are functional. You only need much personnel in management/admin and sales end part of it. 2 Likes |

YouAreNobody: You clearly do not know what you are talking about. 290 people for a company like GSK is peanuts. Ordinary Fidson a nigerian company in the same industry that most Nigerians have probably never heard about employs 215, UAC for instance employs over 1,300 people. MTN employs 1,700. Dangote employs 11,000 excluding their transport workers, Guiness employs close to 1,000, UBA employs 20,000. The point is they are not that important. their employee strength is minimal for a multinational of their size and their products are replaceable and indeed have been replaced by local manufacturers which is why they are quitting. They only have name, they contribute little to our economy and exploit us with huge prices, they are a parasitic company...good riddance!! 4 Likes |
