What If Niger Blocks The River Niger Flow To Nigeria Dam? by tollyboy5(m): 11:39am On Aug 05, 2023

Modified:
I dont mean blocking the river by diverting the flow. What i meant was a dam across the niger. Something like this
https://humanglemedia.com/despite-agreement-with-nigeria-nigerien-govt-progressing-with-dam-construction-on-river-niger/

In September, President of the Niger Republic, Mohamed Bazoum, visited the construction site of the multipurpose Kandadji Dam being built on the Niger River in the country’s southwestern region, to improve electricity supply and food security.

The President went to assess the level of work done on the site which after completion may affect Nigeria’s hydro power supply.

Nigeria has a joint agreement with Niger to provide electricity in exchange that the upstream neighbor will not obstruct the flow of water to the country’s hydroelectric Dams in Jebba, Kainji, Niger State.

The Nigerian presidency in July 2020, disclosed that the country entered electricity power export agreements with some of its neighbouring countries including Niger to discourage construction of dams along the River Niger.
I don't know why some people cant engage in simple convo without resorting to insult.

First they can't.

Second it' will be enough reason for Niger to become full part of Nigeria, without Nigerens becoming Nigerians

Then consider it a declaration of war, they would have given the Federal Republic of Nigeria a solid position to alienate the coup plotters (Terrorists).

Correctly stated, these youthful Obidients in their ignorance, don’t know the might of the country they come from.

Saw it on Aljazeera yesterday, Ecowas defense chiefs in their extraordinary meeting yesterday in Abuja, has said they are going to use Niger as an example for future coup plotters.

Obidients shouldn’t be in a hurry, just sit back & watch.

That's a full blown war and an infringement on the niger government sovereignty over a river across their land. Do you think its only nigeria that has the right to have a dam benefiting from river niger.
If this escalate i am very sure it wont be fought by two countries but more allies from both sides.
That would totally be unnecessary wasting scarce resources on needless war.

Africa will just go poorer.

Ohu, there is a multinational body called the Niger Basin Authority which has signed agreements on how to manage the waterways with Nigeria being the only nation allowed to dam the river downstream and from there supply power to nations upstream.

Foolish gidgiddy is the one making you fools have this mindset.

If countries upstream had damned the Niger River upstream, do you think Onistha will be clamouring for a port today ?

Ewus.

Let them block it, we have other dams
And are diversifying ways to generate electricity
We have more resources to do so than them

Nothing would stop them from making it a long term state policy.

The only reason why the other countries have not dammed the Niger is because of their friendship with Nigeria and bilateral agreements to share the energy generated.

But when the idiotic Nigerians and their leaders push Niger republic to war, I expect that to be their next plan as means of retaliation.

Tinubu already cut off their electricity, and hence Niger republic has the perfect excuse to pursue independent electricity sources.

And with Russian and Chinese help, they would build a dam in 5yrs.

And just like that, Nigerian hydroelectricity is crippled.

It would be Egypt and Ethiopia all over again.

By the time tinubu is through with Nigeria and consequence start, we would know the difference between patriotism and sycophancy.

Tinubu cut off their electricity despite our bilateral agreements.

He also wants to invade them.

And you are still talking of "full blown war".

Which other war is there again?

Nigeria has acted, it's left for Niger republic to respond.

And if they have any level of intelligence, their first plan would be a dam.

who told you they can't or won't consider it now that you switched off their lights despite a subsisting decades old agreement ? Let's also be honest, we all know that strategically, this isn't the best time for Nigeria to go on a needless military adventure in another country
