• ‘No plan for 100% pay rise’

Preparatory talks over enhanced minimum wage have opened between the Federal Government and states.

The outcome of the discussions will guide the Minimum Wage Review Committee on working out a new wage for workers.

This is part of the moves to mitigate the spike in inflation, following the removal of petrol subsidy and the unification of exchange rates.

It is one of the key demands of Labour to enable workers to get succour from the pain of subsidy withdrawal.

But the position of the government is not in favour of a 100 per cent pay rise.

There is a reference to minimum wage only, not a doubling of every worker’s salary. That is misinformation.

“It’s important that we do not get ahead of ourselves and allow the Minimum Wage Review Committee to come to its conclusions as negotiations between the federal and state governments evolve.

What we know now is that there is consensus that an upward review of the national minimum wage is now in order,” a spokesman to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Ajuri Ngelale said last night.

Former President Muhammadu Buhari on April 18, 2019, signed the new Minimum Wage Bill of N30,000.

A few of the states are yet to implement the minimum wage, while some others, such as Imo, recently increased the minimum wage to N40,000.

Before the increase by the Buhari administration, the minimum wage was N18,000.

On palliatives for the withdrawal of petrol subsidy, Ngelale reassured that President Tinubu would keep faith with all the plans rolled out for Nigerians.

He said: “The President has given a very concrete implementation timeline on the robust set of relief package he has detailed in his most recent speech.

“The end of the first quarter of 2024 is the timeframe for rounding off agricultural interventions and MSMEs (Small and Medium Scale Enterprises) capitalisation interventions.

“The CNG (Compressed Natural Gas) supply side and demand side reforms will run in multiple phases, ending between the second quarter of 2024 and the first quarter of 2025.”

In a broadcast last Monday, President Tinubu unfolded a raft of relief packages to cushion petrol subsidy removal pain.

These included the release of over N275 billion to boost the manufacturing sector and the MSMEs.

The President also said talks were on with Labour on the upward review of salaries.

He added that once the terms were agreed on a new minimum wage, budget provisions would be made to cover the review.

He commended the organisations in the private sector that had already taken the initiative to increase remunerations.

“In the same vein, we are also working in collaboration with the Labour unions to introduce a new national minimum wage for workers. I want to tell our workers this: your salary review is coming.

“Once we agree on the new minimum wage and general upward review, we will make budget provisions for it for immediate implementation,” the President said.

Labour had, among others, demanded a pay rise following the petrol subsidy withdrawal, with some chapters asking for N200,000.

Lol

It took this urine dispenser a whole two months before going into discussion with State Governments on Minimum Wage review.

When we were shouting on top of our voices that this senile idiot has nothing to offer Nigeria and Nigerians except some smelly adult urine, his half rained supporters said he was more omniscient than God.

Look at the disaster we have now!

The idiot is prioritizing invasion of Niger Republic which would cost hundreds of billions of Nigerian Taxpayers money, over concentrating on finding solutions to the biting hardships orchestrated by his knee jerk implementation of policies.

Tinubu is just a foolish criminal🤦

How to move our Darling country forward...

1. Abolish SECURITY VOTE in NIGERIA. Nigeria will pay N60,000 minimum wage comfortably.

2. a) Abolish CONSTITUENCY PROJECT FUNDS
b) Reduce number of ADVISERS to SENATE PRES(2), HOUSE SPEAKER(2), GOVs(4), PRESIDENT(5), VP(2)
c) Reduce current ALL Political Office Holders PAY CHEQUES by 51.5%, without exception
d) Do away with special remuneration to POLITICAL ADVISERS & PUBLIC SERVANTS e.g; Purchase of Private Vehicles, Houses, granting Govt paid Vacations, paying for 1st & Business Class Transportations, etc, etc...
e) Abolish payment of OVERSEAS MEDICAL BILLS for Political Office Holders.
f) Eliminate PRIVATE PRACTICE in public workforce
g) Eliminate participation of Public Workforce in Partisan Politics.
h) Institute EMPLOYMENT BY MERIT, and eliminate UNDEREMPLOYMENT.
i) Review and eliminate allocation of Govt paid POLITICAL AIDES & SUPPORT STAFF to Political Office Holders.

With (1) + (2) Nigeria would pay a minimum wageof N90,000 comfortably.......
(3, 4 and 5 To be completed on another thread)

God bless Nigeria
We will get there.......

Much as I do not engage people on this forum, I have always read your comments on political matters and have no doubt that you're an APC person, which is not an offence. We all can not support the same parties or have the same ideologies. However, this your comment is the most non-partisan and practicable panacea I have read from you. Will they do anything close to these suggestions? I doubt.
God bless Nigeria
FYI,
We are not a party people @MANNA.
We vote for good people, no matter the political party they are in.

God bless Nigeria 🇳🇬 and God bless you too ❤️
A better Nigeria all around is all we want @MANNA.

Minimum wage increase yet approved?....I keep wondering why minimum wage standard does not apply to the political office holders or are they not also government workers?
That said if you yet have a source of income that comes in a foreign ccurrency higher in value than naira as the economy stands as @now then find one and the best way is via online in form of investment, product(s) or & service(s).

I see them dragging this issue with labour.
I see Labour leaving the negotiation table and coming back.
I see the government trying to add small ting to the minimum wage.
I see the state governors saying the can only pay what they can pay as they’ll have to borrow to be able to implement it.

I'm beginning to think that Africa is cursed or something is wrong somewhere.

In this 21st century, we are still battling with minimum wage, using roads, foods, electricity, infrastructures and so many basic amenities to campaign during elections.

Nigerians seems to be just only caretaker of the vast resources God gave to us to live a good life and western people are now the real owners.

The worse now is Tinubu and his cohorts are planing to fight Niger in favor of the westerners especially France and US.
Can anyone mention the importance of that war to Nigeria especially now that our economy and everything is crashing down?

Why are all these happening to us?
How long are we going to live like this?
