Entry Requirements to Studying in the UK from Nigeria

Foundation Courses:
Earn a C6 or higher in at least five courses on the WAEC/NECO High School Diploma Exam (including math if interested in a STEM career).

Complete the UKVI IELTS with a minimum overall score of 4.0 and no less than a 4.0 in any section. Some universities may accept you for a foundation year programme even if you do not have the IELTS requirement.

Undergraduate Courses:
The academic standards for each course will vary slightly. There are classes that expect more of you academically. Ulster University typically accepts students from Nigeria with these requirements.

A National Diploma, Either Basic or Advanced Credit reduction.
Graduate of Federal University, albeit with a failing grade.
Completion of the first year (Level 100) of a Nigerian degree programme with a minimum cumulative grade point average of 50%.
A minimum of one credit on the National Certificate of Education.
Westerfield College’s International Foundation programme, with a passing grade in every course. (Global Average of 55%)
Postgraduate Courses:
If you already have a degree that is roughly comparable in the appropriate field, you may be eligible to apply to the taught programme. However, specific course prerequisites may vary. The following are the standard prerequisites for Nigerian students to enter a UK postgraduate programme.

Bachelor’s Degree: 2:50 or better (often a CGPA of 3.0/5.0 or 2.0/4.0)

Grade Point Average of 3.5 or higher (often 60%)

English Requirements:

The United Kingdom Visa and Immigration Service (UKVI) recognises a variety of English language credentials, including those issued in Nigeria.

For instance, a Senior School Certificate from the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) or a National Examinations Council (NECO) with a “Credit Level Pass (C) or “at least A in English.
