Niger Coup: Nigeria’s top Islamic council opposes sanctions, military intervention
The Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) has stated its opposition to the sanctions imposed on Niger by ECOWAS following the coup in the country.

“…it is well known that such kinds of economic sanctions are counter-productive and eventually end in futility,” the NSCIA stated in a statement by its Deputy Secretary-General, Salisu Shehu.

The NSCIA, led by the Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammad Abubakar, also stated its opposition to using force to dislodge the putschists who ousted President Mohamed Bazoum from office last month.

PREMIUM TIMES reported how ECOWAS imposed sanctions on Niger following the coup. The sanctions include the closure of air and land borders, freezing Niger’s accounts in ECOWAS central banks, and so on.

In its statement, NSCIA acknowledged that the coup leaders were defiant in their stance but called for dialogue in dealing with them.

The NSCIA is the most influential Islamic organisation in Nigeria where millions of Muslims consider the Sultan as their leader.

PREMIUM TIMES reported how the Sultan was appointed as a member of a three-person team to negotiate with the coup leaders. The team was, however, humiliated by the putschists.

I said it. The knee jerky reactionary and impulsive urge for the make haste-ECOWAS chair just proved that the man is an unintelligent strategist as highly hyped. Tinubu is looking for every means to legitimate his illegitimacy. Hence in desperation have decided to make himself a pawn for a proxy warfare that will end up becoming his biggest albatross.

He is lucky, his feudal power slave masters are just baring their fangs; but yet to start biting. They will literally throw him under the bus when the effects of the background puppets remote-controlling him have dawned on him.

How can people guilty of democratic robbery and criminal state capture be on a mission to forcefully restore democracy? Leave Niger Republic alone to face their sovereign wahala, you said no. They flex muscle up and down.

These trial-and-error reforms are having significant repercussions, particularly in northern Nigeria. The negative consequences of his policies, such as fuel subsidy removal, currency devaluation, and school fee increment, have created a wave of discontent in the region with dire socioeconomic challenges.

Since the inauguration, the North has been at the receiving end of Tinubu’s experimental policies. The discontent is exacerbated by reforms that disproportionately impact the northern states, leading to a growing sense of alienation and mistrust.

The ongoing stand-off with Niger adds another layer of complexity to the situation. The sentiment that resonates with many affected areas is that he views the North as outcasts and expendable in his broader political strategy and the declaration of war with Niger fuels this debate.

His indifference toward the northern states cannot be more obvious. If left unchecked, the consequences will be catastrophic for West Africa, not only for Nigeria. It will consume us all.One cannot deny that Tinubu has already poked the hornet’s nest with his declaration.

Since the establishment of the Sokoto Caliphate in the early 1800s, the relationship between Nigeria and Niger Republic has been characterised by peace and civility. The two nations have managed to avoid significant conflict despite being colonised by different European powers; France, Germany and England.

However, the current situation represents a stark departure from this historical harmony, marking the first time that relations with Niger have deteriorated to such an extent.

Trust the North! They will never sacrifice their interests for nothing. Remember how the fulanis in Sokoto were opposed to their invading killer brethren being stopped from moving into Nigeria challenged by the immigration down North during the heights of the insecurity?

Tinubu is only obsessed and itchy with declaring war in Niger Republic as he is being held by the balls by the West(who fully knows his dirty life) with the aim to help the with neo-colonisation and then have an attendant effect of establish a state of emergency in Nigeria. Nothing less! Nothing more.

Meanwhile the northerners are not scared of the collateral damage effect but simply because of the strong family and socio-cultural links many of them have and share with Niger Republic.Remember some Buhari’s Kastina home state people fled there to find refuge and shelter when bandits came visiting while he was President.

One point that need to be raised is why is it taking so long to get ministers in place. it's now about 2.5 months since Tinubu was sworn in and still the ministers are not on seat. If we had a foreign ministers in place, they would have been able to properly advice blablu on all the pros and cons of taking a hard stance against Niger. Right now it's just a one man govt, and that's why so many mistakes are being made

He a master strategy this and master strategy that. Now see where he's heading Nigeria to.

It must be definitely a trying time for the agbadorians this period of time.

I have made it clear that Islam doesn't exist in atmosphere of peace and serenity.
The coups in West Africa is a testament to Islamic involvement in the sociopolitical upheavals in West Africa.
If we fail to understand the import of Islam in this current instability in Africa, we may never be able to find solutions to it.
We can't continue this way.

Anyway, I will advice Bola Tinubu to shelve the military solution if he can avoid it, but bear it in mind that the consequences of shelving the military intervention will mean that Senegal, Gambia and Nigeria may fall to coups as well.

Guess it was the same NOI you lots vallified and demonised in the time past? The drug baron must have counted it a big privilege to be visited by NOI.

Her position as the WTO president was attained on merit and not on corruption and criminality. The balabloo-blu-bulava will never attain her position even with his alleged first class honours in accountancy.
