Two anthems that I wish that I could still find. 1) NTA2 Channel 5 became commercial in 1987. This meant that they depended on their internally generated revenue and government stopped giving them money. They introduced a lot of interesting new programmes (Different World, Cosby Show, Frank's Place, etc) and produced a lot of exciting new station idents (🎵Your reach out station, NTA2, NTA2 Channel 5🎶) in order to attract viewers and advertisers. They also produced a new arrangement of the National Anthem. Previously the version of the National Anthem that was shown at the beginning of transmission was performed by a brass band. The version that Channel 5 showed from 1987 into the 1990s was performed on a keyboard and on other electronic instruments. It was beautiful and I wish I could find it again. 2) A new radio station began transmitting on the FM spectrum in 1990. It was called OGBC2. OGBC2 played a fantastic version of the Ogun State anthem early in the morning when they resumed transmitting. I usually turned on the radio before 6am in 1990, just to listen to that anthem. It was also performed on a keyboard, but there were also trumpets backing the keyboard. I wish I can find it. |
