The Howell Police Department and Livingston County Sheriff’s Office were closed Saturday and could not be reached for comment. Robert Okagbare did not respond to a message on social media.

Robert Okagbare told 7 Action News that his son was a good kid who had been working DoorDash and had received an internship with Rocket Mortgage.

“The main question I really have is that how did he end up in Howell, Michigan? He attends Michigan State," Robert Okagbare said in the interview.

7 Action News reported that the killing stemmed from a “love triangle." Police have not said what they believe the motive to be.

“I really don't know how long he’s been with this girl, if the other guy is being jealous of him or something like that — I don’t know,” Robert Okagbare told the TV news outlet.

Robert Okagbare also spoke with FOX 2 News in Detroit and said he was still processing his son’s death.

“This is very hard-working kid,” he said. “For this to happen, this is just … it's just … I don't know. I don't know what to say.”
