So how do we solve the problem?

1.We have to find a way to allow investment in large scale farming...mechanized farming. If states can allow investment in such farming in return for generous tax breaks, we may get more food

2.We ought to do things like provide more improved seedlings, and more research into better farming practices, and spread them among the farmers

3.Short term, open the seed reserves and provide something for poor people.

4.Records, records, records. We have bad records....that hinders distribution of actual welfare to the folk who need it.

Nigeria as a nation relies on subsistence farming for its needs. In simple terms we rely on a farmer and his hoe. A farmer and his hoe can only produce X amount of food

In countries that have mechanised farming like the USA and even south Africa, because of mechanization and massive use of scientific methods , they can produce twenty times more than just our single farmer with a hoe, per acre.

That is why countries like the USA can produce more.

It gets better. Nigerian farming is mainly rainy season based. Irrigation is there, but it is not widespread. In developed countries they can farm if need be all year round. Only African countries like Egypt who have been doing irrigation based farming for centuries, even thousands of years , and again south Africa can do that.

Obi nor tinubu nor atiku had nothing on mechanized and large scale farming in their manifestoes. And even if they did, all that I have said cannot be done in two to three months.

If we all want to eat well, we have to find a way to either do mechanized farming, mass irrigation and scientific farming plus better seed or we can keep on relying on the man with his hoe. Who is human. I know guys who can farm 100 acres will come and boast, but until we have mass farming in Nigeria with mechanization, we will have this issue.
