By the time Chelsea's game with Everton kicks off at 17.30 BST on ESPN UK, they could either be playing catch-up to the two Manchester clubs or they may have the chance to get back on terms at the top of the Premier League table. Either way, in time honoured fashion, it is unlikely they will be watching the earlier results as Andre Villas-Boas will want his players to be fully focused on the Toffees.

And so they should, as Chelsea have won only one of the last nine Premier League meetings with Everton, drawing six of the remaining eight. While it would be a stretch to suggest that the Merseyside club are a 'bogey team' for the Blues, David Moyes has certainly found success against whichever of the interchangeable Chelsea managers he has faced in recent years.
The fact that the last five games between them have all been draws is interesting only because no two Premier League teams have ever played out six consecutive draws, but it would represent a poor result for Chelsea as they find themselves under early pressure to keep pace at the top.

Villas-Boas has some interesting selection choices to make as Frank Lampard has scored four goals from just five shots on target this season and Ramires, John Obi Mikel and Raul Meireles will fight it out for the remaining midfield places with Michael Essien still a long-term absentee. The Blues' main problem, though, is in defence and they have gone six games without keeping a clean sheet; if they fail this weekend it will be their worst defensive run since September 2003.

Reasons, perhaps, for Everton to feel optimistic, although they have gone 16 games at Stamford Bridge since their last Premier League victory. For a
change, the Toffees' injury woes are not hindering them as Victor Anichebe is the only man out, but they will also be worried about their back-line as defender Phil Jagielka admitted this week that one clean sheet was not good enough and that he was unhappy with his own form.
That said, history suggests that the Toffees may have a good chance to cause an upset and Moyes will go into the game with confidence. The latest man in charge of Chelsea, however, will have confidence of his own.
