They just used ANPR (Vehicle registration number recognition system) to continue to monitor them until they had driven about 4 hours away and were on a motorway (which they had discreetly closed to other traffic) to stop them abd easily arrest them.

Bear in mind traffic related technology are at least 4 or 5 years behind mobile phone ones.

Don't be fooled, you are leaving a footprint if things every time your phone is on.
