IGBO EZE NORTH LGA. SECURITY SUMMIT: "PLEASE LET US FORGIVE ONE ANOTHER AND GIVE PEACE A CHANCE..." EXECUTIVE CHAIRMAN, IGBOEZE NORTH LOCAL GOVERNMENT BEGS.

The Security Summit of the people of Igbo Eze North Local Government Area was held yesterday the 9th of September, 2023 at the Local Government Headquarters Pavilion. The Summit which was well attended by sons and daughters of Ezikeoba also had in attendance: clergymen, Heads of various Security Agencies in the Local Government, starting from the Military, NDLEA, Enugu State Neighbourhood Strike Force, Police, Forest Guard, among others.

The Summit primarily aims at bringing to an abrupt and everlasting end the insecurities and criminalities ravaging the land. Enugu-Ezike which was hitherto a safe haven and a peaceful harbour went berserk about two years ago when a band of unsuspecting criminals infiltrated the land and turned it into a beehive of restiveness as they struck indiscriminately and intermittently, garot innocent lives, displace families and individuals, invade peoples home and farmlands, forceful seizures of properties, decimation of security agents and exhibition of terrific behaviour, etc. which in totality created apprehensive atmosphere that grounded activities and movements in the land.

Narrating the activities of the criminals, the Executive Chairman of the Local Government, Hon. Engr. Ejike Itodo cried foul during the Summit while recounting the losses the insecurities have cost the Local Government ranging from the number of innocent persons killed to the number of projects the insecurities denied the Local Government.
Specifically, he brought to the knowledge of Igbo Eze North people that the Local Government lost the opportunity of having a Commercial Bank built in Igbo Eze North. He began by telling the people how arrangements were made for a Commercial Bank to open a branch in Igbo Eze North, and the period they agreed to come and commence work, insecurities heightened all of a sudden, people were killed here and there including armed policemen, and that was how the bank management ran away and cancelled the idea of building a bank in Igbo Eze North till further notice. In the same vein, efforts to get them back with assurance of security and safety failed as they made it clear that nothing will bring them to Igbo Eze North until there is an appreciable level of peace and tranquility in the Area.

Similarly, the Chairman also lamented the slow pace of development insecurity has brought in Igbo Eze North. Recounting the ordeals, he revealed that caterpillars and heavy-duty trucks hardly agree to go to work in many places in Igbo Eze North because they are often confronted by these criminals while at work. In Umuagama Community for instance, criminals burst caterpillar tires used in grading roads there and it affected works going on there. "You see what I am talking about, please my people, let us shun insecurity and embrace peace because there can never be development where there is insecurity" he said.

Furthermore, "security is everybody's business. If you suspect any movement or persons, kindly bring words to the authorities and please do not bring false reports against anybody" he added. Stressing on this, he pleaded and encouraged everyone not to cover or harbour criminals in their homes or neighbourhood and that so doing attracts full wrath of the law. Additionally, Hon. Clifford Obe, Hon. Ejike Eze, Hon. Dennis Agbo represented by Igbo Eze North Labour Party Chairman, Traditional Rulers, Barr. Richard Eke and Heads of Security Agents in Igbo Eze North present all spoke at length on the need to eschew insecurities and embrace peace in Igbo Eze North Local Government.

The Executive Chairman of the Local Government, thanked the Executive Governor of Enugu State, His Excellency Barr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah for the listening ears and all the supports he always give them to combat insecurity in Ezikeoba. And therefore to permanently ground insecurity in Igbo Eze North, the Executive Chairman, Hon. Engr. Ejike Itodo in collaboration with people of Igbo Eze North agreed to setup a Committee on Youth Welfare that will be responsible for the welfare of the youths in the Council Area. Likewise, A Security Committee that will be addressing peoples security problems and providing security assistance and advises to persons in Igbo Eze North will also be setup. These committees will have offices respectively assigned to them in the Council office.
