Bullying is a complex and ubiquitous social phenomena defined by repetitive, purposeful, and hurtful acts or behaviors aimed towards an individual or group of persons who frequently lack the ability to defend themselves. These activities are usually characterized by a power imbalance in which the bully or bullies exert control and authority over the victim.

Bullying is a purposeful and intentional behavior. Through their acts or comments, the bully intends to injure, threaten, or intimidate the victim. This separates bullying from inadvertent or accidental injury. It has a negative influence on the victim’s health. Emotional anguish, anxiety, sadness, low self-esteem, social disengagement, academic or work-related challenges, and, in extreme situations, suicide thoughts or self-harm can all be symptoms.
