Prosecutors have dropped attempted murder charges against family members of a young Muslim woman who was held down and stabbed for dating a Christian man.

The court has previously heard that at the age of 17, the victim had an arranged marriage to her cousin.

The 21-year-old woman was stabbed at a shopping centre car park.

Six of the woman's relatives were charged with attempted murder and due to stand trial.

Prosecutors have now accepted guilty pleas to alternative, lesser charges.

The 21-year-old woman suffered a perforated kidney, lacerated liver and significant internal bleeding as a result of being stabbed repeatedly in the abdomen with a large kitchen knife.

Prosecutors previously alleged her family members worked together to track her down and helped to hold her down as her father stabbed her in a suburban Adelaide shopping centre car park.

The court has previously heard that at the age of 17, the victim had an arranged marriage to her cousin in northern Pakistan.

Prosecutors alleged that the young woman's family disapproved of her Christian boyfriend, who she met at university, and sought to punish her for bringing shame on the family.

The crime had previously been described in court as an attempted honour killing.


The victim's mother and father, brother, sister and brother-in law were originally charged with serious offences including attempted murder and were due to stand trial in the Supreme Court shortly.

Prosecutors have now dropped all attempted murder charges and accepted guilty pleas to alternative, lesser charges.

The victim's father pleaded guilty to an aggravated charge of causing serious harm, while the other family members pleaded guilty to a non-aggravated charge of causing harm with intent.

They also pleaded guilty to unlawful imprisonment.

Two of the victim's brothers pleaded guilty to aggravated serious criminal trespass.

Prosecutors had alleged the two men trespassed on a property and assaulted someone while trying to locate their sister, but the aggravated assault charges against the brothers have now also been dropped.

The court will hear sentencing submissions in December.

It gets worst everyday.. I always fancied this Muslim women. Thou I had a gf she was single mother as of the time she returned back from the U.S, she studied in the U.K, for some reasons her father disowned her for having a child for an ibo guy in the state whom happened to be from a rich background. But alas the young chap died mysteriously and she couldn't maintain her bills in U.S because the family cut ties with her and the guys family were based in 9ja.
She returned after much pressure from the guys family for her to return. The child was born in Kenya eventually cos of medical bills. Whilst we were dating for a short while, often times her tribal sister would tell her about the wrong move in fufida she will rebuff the claim and wink at me... she's really nice but can't they have a choice of relationship when time needs.
