There is a missive making the rounds in the social media space, claiming that a petition has been filed against former Ogun governor and incumbent senator representing Ogun East, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, at the Senate. Truth is that no such petition was filed at the National Assembly.

The petition credited to some phoney Civil Society Organisations and purportedly signed by one ‘Johnson Okuwatobi’ is the latest fabrication from the stable of the Governor’s henchmen in their resolved media onslaught against the gentleman Senator.

Or how is it that the news report of the said petition is being syndicated by the governor’s media aides led by the Chief Press Secretary?

Also, the Johnson Okuwatobi who is said to have signed the petition has been uncovered as a gun-for-hire who is known to parade non-existent CSOs to the bidding of his employers.

Instructively, Otunba Gbenga, as a thoroughbred elder statesman, has kept a dignified silence since the incumbent administration began open attacks against his person and properties.

Not even the illegal and unjust demolition of his wife’s DATKEM Plaza could provoke him to public brawl against the governor.

The former governor has continued to maintain that no provocation would make him desecrate an office he once occupied. More so, he belongs to the same party as the governor. If there are misgivings, they would be routed via proper channels rather than engaging desperados.

Media practitioners are advised to ensure that spurious releases do not escape journalistic scrutiny. Organisations would do well not to offer their platforms to propagandists...
