British Council Introduces IELTS One Skill Retake by ahzassociates: 7:54am On Oct 05, 2023
The British Council is currently providing an opportunity for individuals in Bangladesh and Nepal to retake a specific skill in the IELTS examination. The availability of this option will soon be extended to selected British Council test centers worldwide, beginning in late 2023.
The British Council has introduced a novel option for IELTS test takers who do not achieve their desired scores on their initial attempt, allowing them to avoid retaking the entire test.

According to the British Council, the implementation of the One Skill Retake policy enhances the chances of success for test takers by granting them the choice to redo a particular component of the IELTS exam. This component could relate to any of the four domains: listening, reading, writing, or speaking.

The IELTS One Skill Retake option is currently being rolled out in several countries, including Australia, Azerbaijan, Cambodia, Canada, Ethiopia, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Kenya, Macau, Malaysia, Myanmar, Pakistan, Philippines, Rwanda, Singapore, Thailand, and Uganda. Furthermore, this initiative will gradually expand to cover more regions and countries worldwide by 2023.
Andrew Mackenzie, the Director of IELTS at the British Council, revealed that the development of the One Skill Retake option was influenced by feedback from IELTS customers. Mackenzie stressed the belief that, with proper preparation and support, test takers can achieve their best possible score on test day.

He stated that the One Skill Retake program gives test takers the opportunity to redo a specific skill if they feel that their initial performance did not accurately reflect their level of English proficiency, thus promoting fairness.
The British Council has introduced a groundbreaking new feature for IELTS test takers who fall short of their target scores on their first attempt, eliminating the need to retake the entire exam.

Test takers can choose between their previous test report or the updated one for the skill they wish to retake, based on their respective scores. They have a 60-day window from the initial IELTS test administration to exercise the option to retake the IELTS One Skill.
According to Tom Miscioscia, the director of the British Council's Bangladesh division, there is a commitment to enhancing the abilities of IELTS test takers, enabling them to achieve their highest possible scores. This commitment sets the British Council's IELTS test apart as the only high-stakes examination offering this innovative alternative.

"We take pride in this new initiative that reinforces our dedication to helping test takers reach their full potential," he said.
