Nigerian leaders have poor development strategies.

The first thing is to create an enabling environment to attract investment. Once you do that investment would pour in. Once that happens, government may necessarily need to spend money to build an airport. Private investors may do that.

The billions of naira that was spent on this white elephant project would have been used to improve the security of the state first, improve the standard of education, improve agriculture and health care

State owned airports are doomed to fail due to lack of patronage.

It is only when the state is sure of sufficient patronage should it endeavor or concession it to the private sector.

One thing the state sector can do is to turn it into an aerotropolis. It is a business hub centered around an airport. It could be made an EPZ and raw materials and capital goods will be imported through planes and processed there and re-exported.

I hope this won't cause goosebumps once it's commissioned.
