Nigeria; anything goes.

Lagos is weird place. LASTMA has replaced FRSC. Now soldiers want to replace Police. The only benefit is that they will remove all those Touts from Oshodi to Ajah…

I'm confused angry What again is the work of the military? Police? I don't get this at all.

But you can see that he said they will be assisting or supplementing not taking over the role of civil authorities. Is that now a bad thing?

It is obvious the police are not quite up to the task given the sheer magnitude of the challenges he is talking about. Imagine tackling cultism when as it is now it appears that every other young man in the south of Nigeria is a cultism of some sort. How can the police alone deal with these challenges? How many police officers do we even have?

Btw this is a constitutionally mandated role pursuant to the Armed Forces Act.

But isn’t that suppose to be the work of the Police?. Nigeria has lost it, another avenue for the army to unnecessarily indulge in assault of some innocent citizens.

There is a credible intelligence to the effect that IPOB members are hiding inside Alaba markets and some areas in Lagos. So,this is not ordinary operation; it's aimed at flushing IPOB terrorists and their collaborators out of South West. The guilty are afraid and scared already ! Truly, they should be scared 'cause those criminals will be made by the Army to roast their own scrotums alive and eat it !

I don't see it that way at all. after all this operation is an annual thing and we have not heard of such killings yet. Equally, during the elections we all saw how people had to majorly rely on the army for safety. They are for the people.

The army is involved in policing because the police is poorly funded. That is even before we mention corruption

In 2019, NPF got approx 1 billion dollars equivalent in naira to police 220 million people.

New York city in the USA, got 10 billion dollars to police 25 million people .

Ireland got 5 billion to police it's tiny population.

UK spent the equivalent of half of our budget to police 60 million people

The NPF as a result is so lean and weak that it cannot adequately cater for itself. It is even a miracle that it can do the little it does

Then we don't have adequate records, forensics, even things like CCTV camera

Yes corruption is there. Very well. But before we even mention corruption, the fact is the police is in a bad state even

Hence the need for the army sometimes (also terrorism is more of the army and domestic intelligence remit)

( my comment does not mean I am excusing tinubu or excusing corruption)

It doesn't matter what is budgeted ..... the military is not involved in civilian affairs. Do we have a civilian or a military government? A soldier arrests you a civilian for shoplifting..... does he know the law governing such? .... does he know the charge? ... does he know how to write the charge? ... where would he take you for booking? ... the barracks? ... if he brutalized you ... puff up your eyes and lips ... breaks your nose and a few ribs .... do y9u think you can file charges against him? .... and the Police arrest him to have him tried in a civilian court? Soldiers do not get involved in civilian matters. ... seems even the COA does not know this .... and does not know his duties nor boundaries. And we wonder why military people behave the way they do.

Well yeah, I agree with you.

But as you can see , the situation in Nigeria is abnormal and as a result abnormal things, like a orange tree producing plantains and the Army being involved in policing happens.

Note that my comment isn't to excuse the army participating in crime fighting. It is to point out why the police is so inadequate that we have to bring in the army

Ultimately, Nigeria has to make more money to fund it's budget and to pay for improved service for all
